UNIT 3: PEOPLES IN VIET NAM
A CLOSER LOOK 1
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge. By the end of the lesson, Ss practice the vocabulary and pronunciation.
- Vocabulary: (in)significant, minor, complicated, major
- Grammatical structures: Questions (review)
- Sounds: / sk /, / sp /, /st/
2. Ability.
- Practice saying sentences with correct stress on words
- Ss will be able to use the lexical items related to the culture and people of VietNam and pronounce correctly.
3. Attitude.
- Love the life, culture and people of VietNam.
- Have respect for teachers.
II. Teaching aids: Text books, cassette, chalk, pictures and some boards.
III. Procedure:

Activity 1. (5’)
Aim: Checking the old lesson: Where do you like to live? why?
- Checking attendance:
- Have some Ss repeat the words/ phrases indicating the country life they learnt in the previous lesson.
Warm up.
Brainstorm
+ Where the H’mong live?
+ What their costumes are?
+ Their way of life
+ Their culture
-T helps Ss some information if they don’t know.
Activity 2: (20’)
Aim: Ss can use the lexical items related to the life, culture and people of VN and practice doing exercises.
-Ask ss to read the adjectives in column A and match them with the opposites words/phrases in column B.
-Ss work in individually then compare with their partner.
-Ask ss to give the answers.
-Ss compare the answers with their friends’ on the board then give the correct answers.
-Ask ss to work in individual.
-Some Ss to give the answers.
-Ss write the correct answers on the board.
-Ask the whole class to give comment.
- Ss work in pairs and discuss what word is for each picture.
- Ss give ideas before the class.
- Check the answer with the class.
- Ask ss to give other words which are related to the life of ethnic minority people
Activity 3. 15’
Aim:Ss pronounce words end //sk/, /sp/, /st/ correctly and apply in exercise
-Ss listen to the recording then repeat the words they hear.
-T calls some Ss to read the words they hear aloud.
-T corrects their pronunciation.
-Ss to listen again
-Ss listen then compare the answers with their partner
-Ss give the answers then correct.
-T plays the recording two or three times, helps St recognize all the words with /sk/, /sp/, /st/
- Guides ss to do at home
Activity 4. (5’)
Aim:Ss summary content and are guided to study at home.
- Teacher gets students to retell what they have learnt.
- T guides Ss to homework
