UNIT 2: CITY LIFE
Lesson 1: A closer look 1
I. Objectives
1. Knowledge
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- use the lexical items related to city life
- identify in which situations to stress pronouns in sentences and say these sentences correctly
* Content:
- Vocab: affordable, forbidden, cosmopolitan
- Skills: listening, speaking and writing
2. Ability. Ss will be able to use the lexical items related to the city and pronounce correctly.
3. Attitude. Students love and pride of country.

Contents
Activity 1. (8’)
Aim: Ss play games to get ready for the topic
- Stormword: adj to describe the city life
Activity 2 (23’)
Aim:Ss can use the lexical items related to the city life and practice doing exercises.
- Ss read through the letter so that they can understand the general idea. Ask Ss what the purpose of the letter is (Jack is writing the letter to Oggy to tell about his trip to Hoi An).
- Ss read the adjectives in the box and quickly elicit the meaning of each adjective. If Ss do not know any of them, quickly give the meaning.
- Ss work in pairs to do the task. Some Ss read their answers. Correct their pronunciation if needed and confirm the correct answers.
- Ss read the letter again and underline all the other adjectives. Ss give the meanings of these adjectives in the context of the letter. Correct their answers.
- Ss read through the given adjectives. Some Ss read aloud all the adjectives to make sure they pronounce the adjectives correctly.
- Ask Ss which adjectives they know. Quickly teach Ss the adjectives they do not know.Ss work in groups and discuss which adjectives describe, or are related to, city life. Encourage them to talk about choice.
- Ss work individually, then compare their answers with a partner`s. Ask some Ss to write their answers onthe board. Check their answers as a class.
Activity 3 (10’)
Aim:Ss pronounce words end “es/s” correctly and apply in exercise
- Ss study the yellow box. Give some examples.
- Play the recording and Ss repeat. Correct their pronunciation, especially the stressed words. Have them circle the stressed pronouns.
Activity 4. (4’)
Aim:Ss can use vocabulary about city life in language situation.
- Repeat the main points in the lesson.
- T gives out the work and guides ss to prepare for the new lesson.
