THE PAST SIMPLE TENSE

* Aims: To help Ss review the past simple tense and apply it in doing exercises.
* Materials: grammar and exercise books.

III. New lesson
1. Revision the grammar.
The past simple tense: SS repeat the grammar.
*Usage:
-Diễn tả hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ và đã chấm dứt hoàn toàn hay có thời gian xác định. Thường đi với: ago, yesterday, last, the other day, in…
Eg: He visited Hue in 2001
- Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra suốt một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và đã chấm dứt. Thường đi với ‘for’.
Eg: His father worked in a factory for ten years.
- Diễn tả sự kiện xảy ra đồng thời hay sau hành động khác, hoặc nhiều hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ.
Eg: He studied English when he was in London.
After he arrived in Hue, he visited his grandparents, saw some friends, and went sightseeing around Hue.
- Sau cấu trúc: It’s ( about/ high) time + past simple tense.
Eg: It’s time we changed our way of working.

2. Exercises: T gives ss some exercises and asks them to do.

Ex1: Put the verbs in the brackets in the past Simple tense.
1.We ( start)………………….our new school year last month.
2. She ( receive)……………….her penpal’s letter this morning.
3. Lan ( take)…………………her younger brother to the zoo last week.
4. Her brother ( be)…………very impressed by the interesting and exciting place.

PAST SIMPLE and ‘WISH’ CLAUSES
* Aims: To help ss study about ‘wish’ clause and apply it in doing exercises.

Asks ss to repeat the ways of pronouncing ‘ed’
1. /id/: Verbs at the end is t, d
Eg: wanted, needed, visited, collected, provied……
2. /t/: Verbs at the end is s, sh, ch, x, p, k, /f/
Eg: talked, stopped, watched…….
3. /d/: with the rest verbs.
Eg: played, raised, returned……

1. Grammar:
‘Wish’ được sử dụng để diễn đạt điều ước khó có thể thực hiện được.
a. A present ‘wish’:
S + wish(s/es) + S + V(past).
(to) be: were
Eg: I wish I were taller.
She wishes she knew my name.
b. A future ‘wish’:
S + wish(s/es) + S + would + V
Eg: I wish she would come here next summer.
c. A past wish:
S + wish(s/ es) + past perfect tense.
Eg: I wish It hadn’t rained yesterday.
2. Exercises: Asks ss to do some ex….
Ex1: Write sentences with ‘I wish…..’
