Lesson 1: Getting Started + Listen and Read

I. Objectives: After finishing the lesson Sts will be able to:
- get further information about celebrations in the world
- practice reading comprehension skill for details to complete a table.
II. Language contents:
1. Grammar: Relative clauses, Adverb clause of concession.
2. Vocabulary: celebration, celebrate; occur, sticky, Passover, Jewish, slavery, freedom, parade
.III. Teachniques: chatting, pair work, rub out and remember, group work
III.Teaching aids: pictures, cassette, poster/ projector

1.Warm up
T : guide sts to look at the pictures that hang on the board and give names of the Festival, celebration (flash cards) (T. can say something about these celebrations)
- guide sts to work in group to match the names with the pictures
Sts : do as directed
T: give the feedback, comment.
T: ask some questions about these festivals.






2. Presentation
T: give the sub-board with the table about celebration ( When / where / what people do etc…) and have sts predict or say what they know about them.

T : play the tape
Sts : listen and check their guessing
T : give meaning of some new words – read
Sts : copy down and repeat

Tet is the most important celebration in Viet Nam. It is in late January or early February. On this occasion, people clean and decorate their homes, they wear new clothes and family members enjoy together special food such as sticky rice cake. Everyone in Viet Nam feels happy on Tet Holiday.
