UNIT 9: NATURAL DISASTERS
Lesson 4: WRITE
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Educational aims: Animals can help people to predict some changes of the weather.
2. Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to practice writing a story with cues and pictures given by using past simple tense.
II. PREPARATIONS: book, pictures, extra – board.
III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – up (5’)
Have Ss answer some questions
Do you raise any pets at home?
Do you often play with your dogs outside the house?
When the weather changes, how does your dog behave?

2. Pre - writing (10’)
- Give some new words:
+ circle (n)
+ shelter (n)
+ scared (adj)
+ to behave (v)
+ suddenly (adv)
- Have Ss look at 6 pictures and answer some questions
1. Where is Lan and Skippy?
What is Lan doing?
2. How are her dogs?
Does it behave strangely?
3. What’s on TV?
What’s does Lan’s mother say?
Is a typhoon coming?
4. What are they doing?
5. What’s the weather like now?
How is the wind?

- Write down.





- Look at the pictures and answer the questions

3. While - writing (20’)
- Help Ss to write sentences by using past simple tense
- Have Ss write a story, using the cues given
* Suggested ideas:
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shiny, the sky was
blue and the weather was perfect. Lan was outside playing with her dog Skippy. All of a sudden, the dog began behaving strangely. She kept running around in circles. Lan went home with her dog to tell her mother what Skippy was doing. Lan’s mother, Mrs Quyen told Lan that she heard on TV that there was a typhoon coming. Mrs Quyen gathered her family and told them to find shelter in the house. Suddenly, the sky became very dark. The storm came with strong wind and heavy rain. Mrs Quyen and her family were scared but soon the storm finished and everyone was glad. What a clever dog Skippy is! She saved Lan from being caught in the typhoon.

- Listen.
- Use the cues given to write a story

4. Post - writing (8’)
- Call some Ss to read aloud their writing
- Correct mistakes

- Read the answer.
- Listen.

5. Homework (2’)
- Write the story
