UNIT 8- ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTIES
PERIOD: 63- A closer look 1
I. Objectives.
- By the end of this lesson, students will be able to :
+/ To write the names for the people who belong to these places.
+/ Pronounce the words and pay attention to the stress in words ending in | -ese| and |
- ee | correctly.
+/ To use the words in the box to complete the sentences.
+/ New words: scenic, icon, loch, Cantonese, adoptee, Portuguese, legendary.
+/ Skills: Listening and doing the exercises.
II. Preparation.
- Teacher: Auxiliary boards and flash cards.
- Students: Prepare the new words , practice pronouncing these words.
III. Procedures.

1. Organization: (1’)
2. Checking the old lesson: Check Ss’ new words (5’)
3. New lesson:
* Warm up. (5’)To introduce the new lesson.
- Ask Ss to call out the names of flags.
A. VOCABULARY. (19’)
- T gives the vocabulary.
- Ask Ss to practice the new words, and pay attention to the pronunciation.
- T shows each word and Ss read in chorus first, then call some Ss read the words again.
* Activity 1. Write the names for the people who belong to these places. Then listen and repeat the words.
- Have Ss look at the table in the book.
- Make sure that they understand what to do.
- Ss complete the exercise individually and then compare their answers with a partner.
- T plays the recording and Ss listen and check.
* Activity 2. Change the words into a noun (N), an adjective(A) or a verb(V).
- Ss work individually or in pairs. Check the answers as a class. If time allows, have two Ss write their answers on the board and then confirm the correct answers.
* Activity 3. Match the words/ phrases with the pictures.
- Have Ss look at the pictures. Ask them what they see each of them.
- Ss work individually and then check the answers as a class by asking Ss which countries, from the list in 1.
B. PRONUNCIATION. (7’)
Stress in words ending in -ese and - ee
* Activity 5. Listen and repeat the words.

- Ask SS to read REMEMBER
And notice the stress pattern
- Ss listen and repeat. Then have Ss say the words individually.

-Ask Ss to make sentences with the words from 1
- present before class
- Other Ss remark
- T gives feedback

- Learn by heart the newwords, and check the pronunciation of new words in part : A closer look 2.
