Unit 2: HEALTHY LIVING
Lesson 2: A CLOSER LOOK 1

I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Competences: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Know more the form and use the present simple tense;
- Use Simple present tense to talk about daily activities;
- Be ready to talk about Healthy living;
- Know some daily activities whether good or bad for health;
- Group work and independent working, pair work, linguistic competence,
cooperative learning and communicative competence.
2. Knowledge:
*Vocabulary:
- Vocabulary to talk about healthy living: dim light, lip balm, chapped lips, red
spots, coloured vegetables.
- pronounce and recognize the sounds /f/ and /v/ in isolation and in
context
* Grammar:
- use the present simple tense
3. Attributes:
- Be ready to know the words about healthy activities and health problems
- Develop self-study skills
- The awareness about importance of living healthily.
- Students have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, and pair
work, cooperative learning and working.

III. PROCEDURES
1. Activity 1: WARM UP (5 minutes)
Aims:
- Revise the old lesson.
- Do some activities to creat a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to warm up to the
new lesson.
- Help students have an overview about health.
Content/Performance tasks:

- Have some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to
inspire students to warm up to the new class.
- Find out some information about health problems.
Outcome/Performance Products:
- Interest and concentration of students on the class activities.
- A friendly and relaxed atmosphere to the new lesson.
- Vocabulary about health.
Implementation:
WARM-UP: ASKING QUESTION:
- Teacher writes the numbers 1-6 on the board and asks the students if they can
remember (without opening their books) the vocabulary for health problems from
Getting Started.
Students answer
- Teacher leads students into the lesson by telling them that “In
today lesson, we are going to learn more words to talk about
Health problems and two sounds /f/ and /v/.”
- Ask students to open their book and introduce what they are going to study.

2. Activity 2: PRESENTATION (5 minutes)
Task 1:
Aims:
- To revise the words or phrases they have learnt.

- Lexical items about health problems and healthy living.

- Implementation:
VOCABULARY

* Teacher introduces the vocabulary by:
+ providing the synonym or antonym of the words;
+ providing the pictures of the words;
- Teacher have students read the phrases aloud and correct their pronunciation if
necessary.
- Teacher asks students for the Vietnamese meanings of these phrases.
* Students say the words.
* Other students correct if the previous answers are incorrect.
* Teacher shows and says the words aloud and asks students to repeat them.
* Students put down the new words.
TASK 1: MATCH THE PHRASES ON THE LEFT WITH THE CORRECT

* Teacher asks students to work independently to do matching.

* Teacher asks students to work individually.
* Then, teacher calls some students to check and asks them to explain their
answers.

To help students talk about their daily activities and decide if each activity is
healthy or unhealthy.

words are new to them.
- Then, teacher has students work in group of 4 - 6 to discuss whether each activity
is healthy or unhealthy.
* Students work in groups.
* Finally, teacher calls out some group to give and explain their answers as a class.
* Teacher listens and correct their answers.

* Teacher gives more comments and feedback.

Aims:
- To help students identify how to pronounce the final sounds /f/ and /v/ at the end
of the words.
Content/Performance Tasks:
- To use Simple Present tense for daily activities.

* Teacher has students read the sentences and tell them to pay attention to the
underlined words with sounds /f/ and /v/.
* Students read and underline the words
* Teacher plays the recording for students to listen and repeat each sentence.
* Teacher corrects their pronunciation if necessary.
* Teacher calls on some students to read the sentences individually.

IV. WRAP-UP ACTIVITY, GIVE INSTRUCTIONS ON SELF-STUDYING HOMEWORK / ASSIGNMENT (5 minutes)
- Teacher asks students to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson.
- Teacher guides students to prepare the coming class.
* HOMEWORK
- Do more exercises in workbook.
- Find 5 more words with the sound /f/ and 5 more words with the sound /v/. Write
them down and practice pronouncing the words.
