UNIT 5: NATURAL WONDERS OF THE WORLD
Lesson 34: GETTING SRARTED
I. Objectives:
After the lesson students will be able to:
Knowledge:
- Extend and practice vocabulary related to natural wonders of the world
- Listen to specific information about some natural wonders of the world
Skills:
+ Speaking: Talk about and give travel advice
+ listening: Listen to the conversations between the four students and get the main information.
+ Writing: Write the words in the correct order
+ Reading: read the conversation and complete the exercise
Attitude: To teach Ss to work hard, love and proud of natural wonders of the world
Competences: Describing natural wonders in the world
II. Preparations
- Materials: Textbook, pictures, visual aids
- Equipment: tape + cassette player
III. Teaching process:
1. Intended test and evaluation: (4 minutes)
- Ask Ss to do exercise E1/ page 32 - workbook
2. Warm - up: (4 minutes)
T. asks Ss to look at the picture in student’s book and answer the T’s questions
T: What can you see in the picrure?

T: What are they doing?

- T introduces something about the content of the conversation between Vy, Mai, Nick and Phuc to lead in.
3. New lesson: (33 minutes)

MAIN CONTENTS
Activity 1: Presentation (9 minutes)
Aims:
- Ss know how to read new words, identify their meanings and use them to make sentences and know what they are going to listen and read.
Process:
- Show some pictures of natural wonders, e.g Ha Long Bay; Sa Pa... to engage SS.
* Pre - teach vocaburaly: Translation/ stituation.
- T: Writes new words on the board
- Ss: listen and repeat in individual first then the whole class
- Call 3-4 Ss to read the words again checking: rub out and remember
I. New words:
- Problem (n): vấn đề
- (to) spell: đánh vần
- mountain (n): núi
- natural wonder (n): kì quan thiên nhiên
- Local people (n): Người dân địa phương
- (to) change: thay đổi
- island (n): đảo
- incredible (a): ngạc nhiên, kinh ngạc
- to change: thay đổi
- well done (adj): (làm) tốt
Activity 2: Practice (20 minutes)
Aims: Ss get the content of the conversation among the four people and then complete the exercises
* Process:
- Play the recording
- Play the recording more than once. Pause the recording at the appropriate place if students need help with comprehension questions.
- Ask Sts do task 1 (a). Allow them to share their answer before discussing in groups or as a class.
- Ask Sts do Task 1 (b). Tell Sts to refer back to the conversation to find the phrases. Ss work in pair to write the correct sentences. Ensure they add appropriate punctuation, eg. Capital letters, question marks. Then ask Ss to practice the phrases together. Focus on the rising intonation at the end of these question.
- Ask Sts do Task 1 (c). Use the example to practice a conversation with Ss. Then ask Ss to develop a role - paly around their ideas. Support with suggestions. More able Ss can try to extend the conversation. Ask pairs to perform for the class.
- Play the recording and ask Ss to listen and repeat Task 2
- Ask Ss to do task 3: label the pictures with the correct words. Ss can work in pairs. T shows the picture cards of the vocaburaly. Elicit Ss’ answers. Then T provides the correct answers.
* conclusion:
Almost all the students can understand the conversation and complete the exercises.
II. Practice:
Task 1: Listen and read
a. Answer the questions:

b. Put the words in the correct order
1. Can you spell that, please?

c. Branstorm situations.
Work in pairs. Role-play making suggestions.
Ex:
A: Hi, Can I order a cheese and meat pizza, please?
B. Sure. What’s your name, please?
A: It’s Nick
B: Can you spell that, please?
A. Yes, N-I-C-K
