SPEAK + LISTEN
I. Objectives
1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, Ss improve their speaking and listening skills:
- Speaking: Give and respond to a compliment for common situations.
- Listening: Listen and complete the missing words of an English song (Auld Lang Syne).
a. Vocabulary: Related to celebration.
b. Grammar: Giving and responding to a compliment.
2. Skills: Speaking, listening, less reading and writing.
3. Attitude: Ss will be educated about celebrations.
II. Preparation
1. Teacher: lesson plane, book, color chalks, pictures, cassette and tape.
2. Students: books, notebooks, pen, ruler …
III. Teaching methods

- Question and answer, eliciting
- Techniques: Ask and answer, Work in pairs/ groups, Discuss.
IV. Procedures:
1. Greeting and checking the attendance (1’)
2. Review of the previous lesson (4’)
T calls one S to go to the board, read the text and answer the questions:
a. How many celebrations are mentioned in the text ? What are they ?
b. Which celebration do you like best ? Why ?
Then S writes new words on the board : celebration (n), sticky rice cake (n), parade (n).

Read the following situations with a partner: Then give and respond to appropriate compliments.
Vocabulary :

- activist (n)
- charity (a)
- nominate (v)
- take part in (v)
- Ss make dialogues with pictures b, c, d in pairs.
- T calls some pairs to give the dialogues before the class.
- T checks and corrects students’ pronunciation if necessary.
- T explains the requirement and give some suggestions if Ss can’t think up the situation.
- Ss work in pairs : give and respond to compliments.

Now think up situations in which you can compliment your friends and get respones fro him/her/them, then make up dialogues with partner.
