LESSON: GETTING STARTED + LISTEN AND READ
I. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
* Language content:
-To introduce some vocabulary relating to a first-aid course.
-To get the students to practice the dialogue between a nurse and Lan.
-To practice reading and selecting the topics covered in the dialogue.
-To get them to read for details about the situations which require first-aid.
* Language function:
-To talk about some situations which require first-aid.
-To make them know what they would do in the situations which require first-aid.
* Educational aim:
-To make them know some information about a first-aid course .
-To get them to study know what they should do in the situations which require first-aid.
1. Language:
* Vocabulary : bleed, burn, conscious, ambulance, emergency, pressure…
* Structures : + Revision of some tenses.
2. Skills : Integrated skills
3. Educational factor:
-To make them know what they need to do when there is an emergency.
II. TEACHER’S AND STUDENTS’ PREPARATION:
1. Method: Communicative approach.
2. Techniques: Questions and answers, Explanation, Pairwork, Groupwork, Games,
T/F statements, Transformation, Gap-fill….
3. Materials needed: Textbook ,Workbook ,Charts ,Flashcards , Pictures, Cassette and tape.
4. Students`preparation: : - Preparation of new words and structures.
- Preparation of exercises in the textbook.
5. Previous exercises: -Doing exercises in the workbook .
III. PROCEDURES IN CLAS S:
1. Stabilization:(1m)
*Warm up:- Greets.
- Checks up the attendance.
- Asks them some questions relating to the weather and their health.
2. Checking up previous knowledge: (1m)
- No checking up the previous knowledge because the last period is the first semester test mistake correction.
3. New lesson:
I. Presentation of the new materials.

1. Lead in:
*(Getting started +Listen and read)
* Kim’s game:
- Asks the students to open their books and look at the things on page 80.
-Tells them these things are often used for first-aid.
-Divides the class into two groups .
-Asks the students to close their books and to go to the board to write the names of the things they’ve just seen from memory. (either in English or Vietnamese)
-Tells them the group having the most right English words is the winner.
-Has them open their books again and go through the words in English.
*Answer Key:
1. emergency room
2. sterile dressing
3. medicated oil
4. ice
5. water pack
6. alcohol
-Asks them to discuss and write down what they would do in these situations which require first-aid.
-Calls on some groups to give their answers and corrects.
* Possible answers:
+ A girl has a burn on her arm.( Use cold water / ice to ease the pain.)
+ A boy has a bad cut on his leg. (Use alcohol/ medicated oil/ sterile dressing.)
+ A girl has a nose bleed. ( Use a handkerchief to stop the bleeding/ tell her to lie down.)
+ A boy has a bee sting. (Use medicated oil…)
-Asks the students : Have you ever seen an accident?
+ What would you do when you see an accident?
- Introduces the new lesson: Now, today I’ll help you what would you do in the situations that require
