LESSON PLAN: UNIT 8 - FILMS
Lesson: SKILLS 1 (Reading & Speaking)
Subject: English – Grade 7
Time Allocation: 01 Period (45 minutes)

I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
●
●
●

Reading: Read for main ideas and specific information about film reviews and critics'
opinions.
Speaking: Use vocabulary and structures to talk about a film (title, type, actors, plot,
reviews).
Topic Knowledge: Understand common film genres (horror, documentary, sci-fi, etc.)
and the concept of "personalized recommendations."

2. Competencies
2.1. English Specialized Competencies (Based on CTGDPT 2018 - Tiếng Anh)
●
●

Communicative Competence: Express personal opinions about films and discuss
reviews with peers.
Language Skills: - Reading: Scan a film review to answer questions and match headings.
○ Speaking: Present a short talk about a favorite film following a structured outline.

2.2. General Competencies
●
●

Self-control & Self-learning: Prepare individual speaking notes and complete reading
tasks independently.
Problem Solving & Creativity: Propose how an AI system can suggest a movie based on
user history.

2.3. Digital Competencies (Based on KhungNLS & MAHOA-NLS.pdf)
●
●

1.1.TC1b: Perform clear and procedural searches for data and information in a digital
environment (e.g., searching for movie ratings on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes).
6.2.TC1a: Explain basic operating principles of AI. In this lesson, students identify how AI
"senses" their viewing habits and "reasons" to recommend similar films.

2.4. AI Integration (Goal 7.C5.2 - Framework 3439)
●

Core Concept: Understand how AI "learns" from user movie preferences.

●

AI Logic (Sense-Reason-Interact): - Sense: AI tracks what films a user watches or
"likes."
○ Reason: AI finds patterns (e.g., the user likes "Animation" and "Comedy").
○ Interact: AI provides a "Recommended for You" list.

3. Qualities
●
●
●

Diligence: Completing all reading comprehension activities and vocabulary notes.
Honesty: Sharing real opinions about films and acknowledging sources of information
found online.
Responsibility: Working actively in group speaking tasks and discussing the ethics of "AI
filters" (bubbles).

II. TEACHING AIDS & LEARNING MATERIALS
●
●

Teacher: Slides, projector, short clips of movie trailers, a simulation of a "Netflix/YouTube
Recommendation" feed.
Students: Textbook (Global Success 7), notebooks, smartphones/tablets (for searching
movie data).

III. TEACHING PROCEDURES
a. Warm-up (5 mins)
●
●

Aim: To activate interest in film topics and introduce the AI "learning" concept.
Activities:
○ Game: "The Mind Reader": T shows a student's hypothetical watch history (e.g., Toy
Story, Frozen, Despicable Me).
○ T asks: "What kind of movie will this person like next?" -> Students guess.
○ T explains: "You just did what an AI does. It sensed the data, reasoned the pattern,
and interacted with a suggestion. This is how AI 'learns' from your preferences
(7.C5.2)."

b. Knowledge Formation (12 mins)
●
●

Aim: To provide vocabulary and strategies for reading film reviews.
Activities:
○ Pre-reading: T introduces keywords: critics, reviews, must-see, plot, gripping, star.
○ Reading Task 1 (Activity 2, p.87): Students read the film reviews quickly to match
the film titles with the descriptions.
○ Digital Connection: T shows an IMDb page of a film from the text.
○ T explains (1.1.TC1b): To find if a movie is good, we don't just 'Google' it. We look for
specific 'Keywords' like 'Rating' or 'Reviews'.

c. Practice (18 mins)

●
●

Aim: To practice reading for detail and speaking about films.
Activities:
○ Reading Task 2 (Activity 3, p.87): Students answer detailed questions about the
texts. T encourages students to find "evidence" in the text.
○ Speaking Prep (Activity 4, p.88): Students work in pairs. They choose a film they've
seen and fill in a "Film Profile" (Name, Type, Actors, Plot, Reviews).
○ AI Discussion (7.C5.2): - T asks: "If you give your 'Film Profile' to an AI, what will it
do?"
■ Ss answer: "It will Sense my favorite actors, Reason that I like Action movies, and
Interact by suggesting John Wick."

d. Application (10 mins)
●
●

Aim: To apply language skills to present a "Recommended Film" talk.
Activities:
○ Group Task: "The Human Recommender":
■ Group A lists 3 movies they like.
■ Group B acts as the "AI Engine". They must search (1.1.TC1b) for a new movie to
recommend to Group A based on those 3 movies.
■ Group B presents: "Group A likes Doraemon and Pokemon. We reasoned they
like Japanese Animation. We interact by recommending My Neighbor Totoro."
○ Conclusion: T emphasizes that AI is a tool that helps us discover things based on our
data, but we should always be the ones who choose (Human Agency).

IV. WRAP-UP & HOMEWORK
●
●

Wrap-up: T summarizes the film genres and the 3-step AI logic (Sense-Reason-Interact).
Homework: - Write a short paragraph (60-80 words) about your favorite film.
○ Search online for a film critic's review of that film and note down 3 adjectives they
used (Digital Search Skill).
