LESSON 9
Draw and colour: Japanese lanterns
1. Preparation
- A bag, a moon cake, a lantern, a pomelo; a model of a moon/ star.
- White empty toilet paper rolls, paper strips of different colours, crayons, glue.
2. Procedure
Warm up
-
Ask the children to sit in a circle. The teacher secretly puts prepared things (the moon
cake, lantern, pomelo, the model of a star) into the bag and ties it up then grasps a thing
from outside (without untying the bag) so that the children can see its shape and guess
what it is. At last, untie the bag, take out the thing to check if the children guessed right.
Do activities

o Step 1: Ask the children to open page 20, Eduplay Friends 3A (Pupil's Book) and
colour the (Japanese) fish lanterns as they like.
o Step 2: Divide the children into some groups and give each child a plain Japanese
fish lantern.
o Step 3: Give the children the necessary materials and guide them to make a Japanese
fish lantern. Ask the children to observe, listen, repeat and do as the teacher's orders.

The teacher says: Draw the fins., the children will draw the fins for their fish lanterns.

The teacher says: Colour the fins., the children will colour the fins as they like.

The teacher says: Glue tails., the children will glue paper strips of different colours
to finish the Japanese fish lanterns.

The teacher goes around the classroom, offers help where necessary and asks
the children to make sure they understand what they are doing: draw the fins, colour the
fins, glue tails.
o Step 4: After finishing, ask some children to present their works to the whole class. For
example: Look! It's my lantern. It's red, yellow, blue and green. I like it.
3. Wrap up

Invite the children to display their works in the Art corner.

LESSON 10:
Colour and say
1. Preparation
- Crayons.
2. Procedure
Warm up

Ask the children to stand up, reading the chant on page 18, Eduplay Friends 3A (Pupil'l
Book), making movements correspondingly.
Do activities
o Step 1: Ask the children to open page 21, Eduplay Friends 3A (Pupil's Book), and talk
with them about pictures on the page. For example: What's this? – This is a fish
lantern./ How many fish does the lantern have? – It has three fish.
o Step 2: Guide the children to colour the fish lantern as they like. Let them colour.
Go around and ask some children about the colour they are using or the thing they are
colouring. For example: What are you colouring?/ What colour do you like?
o Step 3: When the children finish, ask some of them to present about their works.
For example: It's my lantern. This is a fish lantern. It has three fish. It's pink, yellow,
blue and green. I like it.

If possible, allow them to go around the classroom to show and tell about their
lanterns.
3. Wrap up
-
Sing a song about the Mid-Autumn Festival all together and say goodbye.
