UNIT 1:  MY NEW SCHOOL
Lesson 1. Getting started
I. Objectives
1. Knowledge:
By the end of the lesson, students will be equipped the new words “study, heavy, subject, uniform, smart, put on = wear”, and use the vocabulary to talk about school things.
2. Competences:
Students will be able to practice the dialogue about Phong and Vy, then tick the “true or false”.
3. Attitude:
Students will be aware of the love for school, class.
II. Teaching aids:
Pictures, chalks, textbooks, handouts, a laptop, a TV.
III. Procedure
Activity 1: Warm-up (3 minutes)
Goal
- to introduce and lead in the topic of My new school
Content
Pictures:
- Board, schoolyard, chalk
Outcome
- Students name the pictures.
* Answer key: Board, schoolyard, chalk
Procedure
- show the pictures, and ask sts to name the pictures, then use sts' answer to lead them into the lesson.

Activity 2: Presentation (7 minutes)
Goal
- to prepare sts with vocabulary
Content
* Vocabulary:
1. study (v): học
2. heavy (a): nặng
3. subject (n): môn học
4. uniform (n): đồng phục
5. smart (a): bảnh bao
6. put on = wear (v): mang, mặc, đội
Outcome
- Students can understand the meanings, write the missing word to its definition in English and pronounce it accurately.
Procedure
- introduce the words by explaining the meaning.
- read the words for the model, then help sts repeat.
- check sts' reading in individual and correct the mistakes.
- write the words on the board and give the meaning.
- give feedback.

Activity 3: Practice (30 minutes)

Goal
- to help sts practice the dialogue
Content

Phong: Hi, Vy.
Vy: Hi, Phong. Are you ready?
Phong: Just a minute.
Vy: Oh, this is Duy, my new friend.
Phong: Hi, Duy. Nice to meet you.
Duy: Hi, Phong. I live near here, and we go to the same school!
Phong: Good. Hmm, your school bag looks heavy.
Duy: Yes! I have new books, and we have new subjects to study.
Phong: And a new uniform, Duy! You look smart!
Duy: Thanks, Phong. We always look smart in our uniforms.
Phong: Let me put on my uniform. Then we can go.
Outcome
- Students can practice the dialogue fluently.
Procedure
- have sts to listen to the tape 2 times, then read model.
- asks sts to practice it in pairs, then call on sts to practice it.
- give feedback.

Goal
- to have sts get specific information of the conversation
Content

Procedure
- stick a poster with sentences on the board, then ask sts to read the sentences in silent.
- ask sts to predict.
- ask sts to read the text again to check their prediction in pairs and correct.
- give feedback.

Goal
- to check sts understanding of the conversation and help sts use the words in context.
Content

- ask sts to re-do exercises at home.
- ask students to prepare “Unit 1_L2. A closer look 1” at home.
