LESSON 3: LISTENING
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- get more information about Cuc Phuong National Park.
II. Methods: - Communicative approach.
III. Teaching aids: Tape, cassette, textbook, chalk, board.
IV. Procedures:

I. Warm up: (5 mins)
- Ask one st to listen to a song and answer the question: What is the name of the song? Earth song
- It is the song abount our nature
- It is the written & performed by Michael Jackson
- What can you see in this picture?
+ It is a 1000 year old tree
+ It is a prehistoric cave.
Which place is referred to?
Cuc Phuong National Park
- Listen to a song.
- answer some questions
II. Before you listen: (10 mins)
Aims: to focus Ss on the topic and review/ introduce the words and phrases used in the listening text.
a. Ask Ss to answer some questions:
1. Where is Cuc Phuong National Park?
2. What is the area of the rainforest in Cuc Phuong National Park?
3. When is the best time to visit Cuc Phuong National Park?
4. What can be seen in Cuc Phuong National Park?
- Ask some Ss to give their answer.
b. Introduce the topic of the listening text.
- Introduce some new words/ expressions
- Read the words again and asks Ss to repeat.
- Ask Ss to read the words in pairs.
- Ask some Ss to read the words again.
III. While you listen: (20 mins)
+ Task 1:
Aims: Practise listening and filling in the gaps.
- Introduce Ss that they are going to listen to the tape about Cuc Phuong National Park and they have to fill in the gaps in each sentence given
- Ask Ss to read the sentences in pairs and make sure that they understand them. Ss try to gueSs the miSsing information.
- Play the tape twice and ask Ss to fill in the gaps.
- Ask Ss to compare their answer in pairs.
- Checks Ss’ answer.
- Play the tape once again, stop the tape where necessary and conduct the correction.
+ Task 2
Aims: Practise listening and Answering questions.
- Ask Ss to listen to the tape again and answer the given questions.
- Ask Ss to read the questions to see if they understand them.
- Play the tape once and ask Ss note down the necceSsary information.
- Ask Ss to compare their answer in pairs.
- Check Ss’ answer.
- Play the tape once again, stop the tape where necessary and conduct the correction.
IV. After you listen: (8 mins)
- Ask Ss to work in groups and use the information in Task 1 and 2 and the reading text to diSscus the following problems:
- Area, location
- Numbers of visitors
- tourist’s activities
- flora
- fauna
- ethernic minority
-Move round to check the activities and to make sure that Ss are working effectively.
- Ask one or two Ss to present in front of the whole class.
- Check and give remarks.
V. Consolidation:
Listen again/ fill in the blank with the suitable words:
Cuc Phuong National Park belongs to (1).................. provinces. It is not very far from Ha Noi to Cuc Phuong, about (2)......................
In 2002, nearly 100, 000 visitors made their way to Cuc Phuong. They come to see the work being done (3) .................. endangered species. According to scientists, there are about 2000 species of fauna & (4)……….. Species of flora.
Cuc Phuong National Park has many caves. Quen Voi, also part of the park, is where Nguyen Hue’s army was stationed before it made its surprise attack on Thang Long and defeated the Quing invaders in the spring of (5) .............
Cuc Phuong is also (6)........................to the Muong ethnic minority, who live mainly on (7)......................and farming.
VI. Homework: (1 min)
