Period 7: Unit two: MAKING ARRANGEMENTS.
Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED + LISTEN AND READ.
I- The aims of the lesson: To help ss practice listening skill and read for details
about about a conversation on the phone.
* Vocabulary: a fax machine, public, a mobile phone, an answering machine.
* Grammar: “ be going to” to talk about intentions.
* Skills: - Main skills: reading, speaking.
- Other skills: listening & writing.
II- The objective of the lesson:
- By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to use the telephone to make
& confirm arrangements.
III- Teaching aids: Pictures.
IV- Procedures:
1. Review (5’) - Make new sentences with “(not) enough to”:
Ba is intelligent. He can do this difficult exercisse.
The little boy is short. He can’t reach that shelf.
Ba is intelligent enough to do this exercise.
The little boy isn’t tall enough to reach that shelf.
2. Warm up (getting started) (8’) * Matching:
- T gives the definitions of these objects on the extra board:
1, to send fax.
2, to find someone`s telephone number.
3, to write addresses and telephone numbers.
4, to make phone call in a street telephone box.
5, to leave and take massages.
6, to make phone call anywhere you like.
- Asks ss to match the object with its definition.

3. Listen and read (15’)
a. Pre – teach vocabulary:
- public (adj) công cộng
- an answering machine máy ghi lời nhắn/ trả lời
- a fax machine: máy fax (exp - nhắn tin)
- a mobile phone: điện thoại di động (realia)
- (to) hold on cầm máy chờ
- (to) arrange- arrangement sắp xếp
- (to) make the call gọi điện thoại
- (to) invite mời
- (to) effect
* Checking: What and Where.
b. Pre- reading : Ask students some questions to make sure
that students know something when making a phonecall:
+Do you often make a phonecall?/answer a phonecall?
+What will you say if you are the caller?
+ What will you say if you pick up the phone to answer it?
+What will you say when you want the listener to wait for
a few s..?
* Open prediction: Hoa and Nga are talking
on the phone. They are talking about going to see a movie.
Guess:What they want to see./ When they want to see./
Where they want to see…
- Asks ss to guess:
a, Who made the call?
b, Who introduced herself?
c, Who invited the other to the movie?
d, Who arranged the meeting place?
e, Who arranged the time?
- Give feedback.
c.While reading : Have ss listen to the conversation twice
to check their predictions.
- Ss read the dialogue again to check.
- give feedback: a, Nga (did). b, Nga (did).
c, Nga d, Nga e, Hoa
f, Nga agreed to the time.
* Matching:
