Language focus
Description: - 10th grade students,Thanh Mien I high school
- Level of student: pre-intermediate.
Time: 45 minutes
Objectives: After the lesson, students will be able to
Distinguish the sounds /s/ and /z/.
Pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly.
Master the use of “To verb” to express purpose
Make and use Wh-questions frequently.
Use the structures correctly and appropriately to solve communication talks.
Assumed knowledge: Students have already
Known some words containing the sounds /s/ and /z/.
Anticipated problems
Ss may have difficulty in pronouncing two sounds /s/ and /z/
Ss may confuse distinguishing /s/ or /z/ when adding “s” after singular verbs and plural nouns
Ss may feel uninterested in the lesson.
It is likely to lack time because of many activities during the lesson.
Solutions:
Let Ss practice two sounds /z/ and /s/ many times and ask them to repeat them.
Distribute time on each activity properly.
Integrate activities to get students interesting.
Teaching aids: the blackboard, the textbook, handouts.

I. Warm up: (3 minutes)
- Invite Ss joining an exciting game: Bingo.

- Ask Ss to listen to the words that T read and tick into the words they hear and say “Bingo” when having the words

II. Practice:
Activity 1: (5 minutes)
- Distinguish the differences among 2 sounds.
/s/: voiceless sound
/z/: voiced sound
* singular verb and plural noun +s
/s/ books, stops, laughs, months
S /z/ b d g j l m n ŋ(ng) r v z ð(th in the) and all vowels
/iz/ +es glasses, boxes, churches
Model to students can know how to pronounce
- Ask Ss to look at the textbook to pronounce the words
- Call some Ss to stand up and read aloud the answers.
- Give feedbacks.
Activity 2: (2 minutes)
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to read 6 sentences in the text book
- Call some Ss to stand up and read aloud.
- Correct some pronunciation mistake.
- Read aloud and ask Ss to repeat again.
- Work individually.
- Look at carefully the handout and listen to T.
- Tick the word T read.
- Say “Bingo” when having the words
- Read aloud the words
