Period 69 – Unit 9: Cities of the world
Lesson 1:GETTING STARTED - “WHAT NICE PHOTOS!”
I. OBJECTIVES
- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
+ Use the lexical items related to the topic “Cities of the World” + Know some famous cities and landmarks and use the vocabulary and structures to describe them.
1. Language focus:
+Vocabularies: The words related to the topic of the lesson “CITIES OF THE WORLD”.
+Structures: The Present Perfect Tense.
2. Anticipated problems:
- Ss may get mistakes when they do exercises.
Ss might be get stuck with some new words while reading the dialogue and therefore be unable to find answers to detailed questions
Ss might not understand teacher’s instructions.
Technology (computer/ projector) won’t be working.
3. Attitude: Ss are excited about the lesson and take part in activities heartily.
4. Living skills:Pairs work, group work, problem solving.
II. TEACHING AIDS:
Textbook, tape, speaker, projector, computer and handouts.

Tintroduces about herself and asks some questions:
+ How are you?
+ What’s the weather like today?
- T shows some pictures of famous cities in the world in the screen.
- T says: Before going to the lesson today, I want to show you some pictures. These pictures are famous cities of the world. Who can tell me the name of the cities?

- T calls some Ss answer then shows the name of cities on the screen.
-T asks Ss to names some of the famous cities in the world.
- T calls some Ss answer.
- T says: After seeing these photos and answering my questions, can you guess the topic of the lesson today?
Ss answer (It’s cities of the world)
-T says: That right! So, to get more information about the cities, we are going to learn Unit 9: Cities of the world.
- T writes title of unit on the board.

* Lead-in :
-T shows a picture on the screen and says: This is Tom and Mai.Now, look at the picture and answer my questions.

+ What are they doing? ( They are talking together)
+ What are they looking at?(They are looking at photos on the computer)
-T asks: Can you see the sentence “What nice photo!”? What does it mean? (Ss may have no answer)
-T explains: “What nice photos!” is an exclamation to express that you like the photos.
- T asks: Can you guess which cities are Tom and Mai talking about?
- T calls some Ss to answer.
- T says: So, we are going to listen to the recording to find out about this.
* Listen and read:
1. Task 1: Listen and read.
- T plays the recording for the first time.
- T asks: Is there any new words?
- T teachs new words.
* Vocabulary:
+ egg-shaped building:(show picture in screen)
+ continent (n):(give example)
+ capital (n): (give example)
- T asks Ss to practise reading new words.
- T reads then requires Ss listen and repeat chorally.
- T asksSs to play the role of Mai and Tom.
- T calls some pairs to practice in front of whole class
and corrects their mispronunciation if necessary.
2.Task 2: Read the conversation again. Then tick True (T) or False (F). Correct false statements.
-T does a model first.
- T asks Ss to work individually and do Task 2 in 2 minutes. T allows them to share answers before discussing
