INTRODUCTION
I. THE PROGRAM OF ENGLISH 9:

+ Personal information (unit 1->unit 3)

+ Recreation (unit 8)
+ The world around us (unit 9+10)
- 5 periods/ unit:
+ Getting started + listen and read
+ Speak + listen
+ Read
+ Write
+ Language focus
- 2 periods/ week
- 45-minute test after unit 2, 4, 7, 9
- The first semester test after unit 5
- The second semester test after unit 10
II. THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH:
- English is an international language. People speak and use English in most countries in over the world.
- English is used to communicate, study, do business, …
- Knowing English helps people enlarge their knowledge about the world around.
III. HOW TO LEARN ENGLISH:
- Practicing 4 skills:
+ Listening
+ Speaking
+ Reading
+ Writing
IV. COMPETENCE:
After finishing grade 9, students can get basic communicative skills.

I. OBJECTIVES:
- Sts. know some more famous places in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi.
- Developing sts` listening and reading skills.
- After studying the lesson, sts will get more friendly, they know how to introduce Vietnam to foreign friends. They love their country more and more.
II. LANGUAGE CONTENTS:
Vocabulary: correspond (v) -> correspondence (n); impress (v) -> be impressed by ... -> impression (n) -> impressive (a); friendly (a) -> friendliness (n); mausoleum (n); mosque (n); pray (v) -> prayer (n); wish (v, n); depend on (v) -> (in)dependence (n) -> dependent (a) ; keep in touch
Grammar:
* S1 + wish + S2 + V(S. past)... / would + V(inf.)...
* used to + V(Inf.) (Review)
* Would you like +Noun/ to V …? (Review)
* seem / look + adj (Review)
III. METHOD AND TEACHING AIDS:
Method: Audio-lingual method
Teaching aids: CD and cassette player, textbooks, pictures …
IV- TEACHING PROCEDURES:
1-Warm up:
- Pointing to the pictures, T. asks sts to tell the names of places in the pictures.
- Ask sts to tell the names of other famous places in VN.
* : T- whole class
- Do you have any pen pals?
- Where does he/she live?
- Has he/she ever visited your city?
- What activities would you do during her/ his visit?
- Where would you take him / her to?
* Possible answers: I think I’ll take him/her to temples and churches/ the beach, the mountains/ the theaters/ restaurants…
2.Pre-reading
* Open prediction:
- Introduce the text: "Lan’s Malaysian pen pal, Maryam came to visit her in Hanoi. Can you guess where they went and what they did during Maryam`s stay?”
- Ask sts to listen to the tape and check their prediction.
- Give feedback to the whole class.
- Explain new words and structures.
* New words:
+ correspond (v) – to S.O -> correspondence (n) + pray (v) -> prayer (n)
+ impress (v) -> be impressed by …. + wish (n, v)
