TASK 2. Read the following passage and decide whether the following statements are
true (T) or false (F).
Humans depend mostly on nature to live as it supplies us with all necessary resources.
However, nature is endangered and it is calling for our help. There are several practical
things we can do to protect the environment. To begin with, the government needs to apply
strict regulations in order to prevent factories and industrial areas from releasing waste and
fumes into the air and rivers. We have to work together so that we can save our own
habitat. In addition, we must stop deforestation and hunting wild animals. Trees are natural
filters of air that change carbon dioxide into oxygen, purify our air and also save us from
brutal floods. Cutting down trees means pushing wild animals out of their natural home
and the soil begins to grow in erosion. People must take into account their views of
life and promote a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle. It is up to us to change
the situation for the better and preserve a good legacy for our next generations.

Task 3. Read the letter carefully then choose the correct answer A, B, C or D for
each question below.
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I'm writing because I was on the beach with some friends last weekend and the amount of
rubbish we found there was unbelievable.
I think there are possibly two reasons for this. Firstly, people aren't responsible enough
and they throw their rubbish away anywhere. Perhaps we need a few signs and people to
patrol the beach. Also, there aren't enough bins on or near the beach, so I think we need
more. Secondly, nobody cleans the beach. I think this is terrible in a tourist town. We need
people to clean the beach and empty the bins every day.
We must definitely do something about this situation. We must do it right away if we want
a cleaner, and more attractive beach.
Your faithfully,
Alan
(Adapted from www.loigiaihay.com)
1. Where did Alan and her friends find the rubbish?
A. on the beach
B. in the sea
C. near the hotel
2. How many reasons are there for the rubbish?
A. one
B. two
C. three
3. What aren't there enough on or near the beach?
A. tourists
B. rubbish
C. bins
4. What will we get if we solve the problem right away?
A. a cleaner, and more attractive beach
B. more responsible people
C. more bins on the beach
5. What is Alan's letter about?
A. The beauty of the beach
B. The pollution of the beach and solutions
C. Her friends on the beach
