Lesson 1: Getting started - Geography club
STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES
A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Recognize to the topic of the lesson - Natural wonders of Viet Nam; Remember some lexical
items related to the topic Natural wonders of Viet Nam.
- Use some lexical items related to the topic Natural wonders of Viet Nam to do exercise.
- Enhance Ss' love for natural wonders in Viet Nam, good attitude to protect and conserve the
natural wonders; Develop competences of communication, co- operation and self -management.

STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Teacher's activities
A. Warm up (7') – Watch video and answer some questions.
- T plays the video and has students list out Vietnamese
attractions in the video.
- T asks how many attractions students have listed.
- T asks students if they can provide any information about one
of the attractions in the video.
- T asks Ss to guess what they are going to learn about in this
unit.

I. ACTIVITY 1 – PRESENTATION (10')
Task 1: Listen and read
* Pre-teach vocabulary: Teacher uses different techniques to
teach vocabulary (by showing pictures, situation, realia,
explanation....) and follow the steps to teach vocabulary:
- T calls on some pairs of Ss to read the conversation aloud.
- T quickly teach/ introduce the new words if have
- Comment on Ss'answers.

Geography Club, talking about natural wonders of Viet Nam
such as Ganh Da Dia and Ha Long Bay, and that they are going
to listen to their talk.
- Play the recording two or three times, or more if necessary for
Ss to listen and read along.
- Have Ss underline the words related to the topic of the unit
while they are listening and reading.
- Call on some Ss to read the conversation aloud.
II. ACTIVITY 2 – PRACTICE (18')
Task 2: Complete the following sentences with the words
from the box.
- T asks Ss to do this activity independently. Ask them how to
do the activity.
- T reminds them of the ways to do the activity if needed: read
the sentences carefully, read the words given in the box and
identify the kind of word to fill each blank.
- T allows them to share their answers before discussing them
in pairs or as a class.
- T explains the meaning of some words if necessary.

Task 3: Listen and repeat the words, then label the picture.
- T plays the recording and ask Ss to listen. Play the recording
again, pausing after each item and asking them to repeat

- T asks Ss to label the pictures with the words given in groups.
- T shows picture cards of the vocabulary. Elicit Ss' answers.

- T lets them choose the number and answer the question. With
each number, they have to answer 1 question (The right answer
will get 1 point). If they choose lucky number, they don't need
to answer and get 2 points.
- T calls on some Ss to read the answers aloud then T confirms
the correct answers.
- T gives Ss information about these wonders to interest them in
the topic of the unit.
