- Context a:
Minh: Hello. I'm Minh. I'm from Japan.
Where are you from?
Mary: Hello, Minh. I'm Mary. I'm from
America.
- Context b:
Lucy: Hi. I'm Lucy. I'm from Britain. Where
are you from?
Ben: Hi, Lucy. I'm Ben. I'm from Australia.
- Have students look at Pictures a and b and
identify the characters in the pictures by asking
some questions.
 Who are they?
 Guess what they are talking about.
- Ask students to look at Picture a. Play the
recording for them to listen.
- Play the recording again, sentence by
sentence, for students to listen and repeat in
chorus and individually. Correct their
pronunciation where necessary.
- Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.
- Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom
to listen to and repeat the sentences in the
recording.
- Draw students' attention to the question
“Where are you from?” and the answer “I'm
from America.”. Explain that they are a

Activity 3. Ask questions to help them identify
the characters and countries.
 What can you see in the picture?
- Elicit the missing words in the speech bubbles
and write them on the board. Get students to
say the completed sentences.
- Put students in groups of four to ask and
answer about where someone is from. Go
around the classroom to offer support where
necessary.
- Invite some pairs to practise asking and
answering questions about where someone is
from in front of the class and correct their
pronunciation where necessary.
- Give encouragement to the students'
performance.
* Preparation for the project
- Tell students about the project on page 15.
- Ask students to prepare for project at home by
choosing two students in the unit and making
student cards for them.
- Remind students to bring their cards to the
class at Project time in Lesson 3, Activity 6.
