UNIT 9: CITIES OF THE WORLD
Time expected to complete the topic: 5 periods; from 65 to 69
I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this unit, students will be able to
-use the words related to cities and landmarks;
-pronounce the sounds / / and / / correctly;
-use possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns;
-express exclamations with What,
--read for general and specific information about a holiday postcard;talk about a City;
-listen for specific information about a description of a City;
- write a holiday postcard.
UNIT 9: CITIES OF THE WORLD
Period: 65 Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED

1. Knowledge
- To introduce topic of the lesson Cities of the world. To practice listening and reading.
*Vocabulary: use the words relating to some cities and landmarks. Pronouncing the sounds / / and / / correctly;

2. Competence: By the end of the lesson students will be able to know how to use possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns correctly. Students can know some famous cities in the world
3. Quality/ behavior: To teach Ssthe loveof English. The awareness about importance of traveling around the world. Ss have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pairwork, cooperative learning and working.

1. Teacher: - Grade 6 textbook, Planning ( Unit 9- Getting started )

III. PROCEDURE:
1. ACTIVITY 1: WARM UP & INTRODUCTION ( 3’- 5’)
a. Aims:To set the context for the listening and reading text,
To introduce the topic of the unit.
b Content: Matching game : Match the pictures with their appropriate continents.
c. Outcome: Ss complete the given task the fastest and correctly will be the winner.
c.Outcome: name some cities in the world as much as possible.

Teacher divides students into 5 groups and delivers a set of 10 pictures about cities in 5 continents.
Each group will be assigned the name of the 5 continents.
Students will have to pick up the pictures and stick them to their appropriate continent.
The group which completes the given task the fastest and correctly will be the winner.

2. ACTIVITY 2: KNOWLEGDE FORMATION ACTIVITIES/ PRESENTATION/ NEW LESSON
Exercise 1: Listen and read
a.Aims:- To set the context for the introductory;
- To introduce the topic of the unit, the vocabulary, the sounds, and the grammar points to be learned.
b.Content: Learn some new words . Read the conversation and find out new words.
c.Outcome:Know more new words. Understanding the conversation; topic of the lesson, grammar points…

Teacher draws students’ attention to the picture in the textbook and asks them questions about the picture to introduce the land:
1. What are Mai and Tom doing?
2. What are they looking at?
What is the name of the city?
What landmark is in the picture?
* Suggested answers:
1. They are talking to/ discussing with each other.
2. They are looking at the computer screen/ some photos/ pictures about places around the world.
3. It’s Sydney in Australia.
4. It’s the Opera House.
* Pre teach vocabulary (7’)
a.Aim: To intruduce the vocabulary apprearing in the next.
b.Content: learn some vocabulariesrelatedtothetopic.
c.Products: Students read and understand the meaning of vocab
d. Organisation :Teacher’s instructions..
*Teach vocabulary:
+ Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocab (situation, realia, translation.)
* New words:
+ Beach ( beaches ):bãi biển
+ A lot of beaches: nhiều bãi biển
+ Exciting ( adj) thú vị
Ex: It’s exciting with a lot of beaches.
+ Wonderful (adj): tuyệt vời
+ Bad weather (n) thời tiết xấu
Ex: What bad weather! ( exclamation sentence )
Exclamation sentences: What + (a/an) adj + N!
