Speaking
1. Class description:
- 40 students (Ss) in 11A2 class at Ngo Thi Nham high school
2. Level:
- Intermediate
3. Time: 45 m
4. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: talk about the causes of population explosion, problems of population booms and solutions to these problems.
5. Assumed knowledge:
- Ss have already known some vocabulary items related to the topic.
6. Anticipated problem(s):
- There may be lack of time, so the teacher (T) can cut down amount of time to do task 4.
- There may be time left, so the teacher (T) should spend more time for Ss doing task 4.
- Ss may not have enough vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to provide help.
7. Teaching aids:
- Books, handouts, visual aids, chalks and board.

To help Ss express their own ideas about causes of population explosion
- Step by step
- Gives Ss instruction: You are going to put the following causes to overpopulation in order of importance and explain your decision.
- Asks Ss to read through the causes provided on page 83 and makes sure that Ss understand these statements.
- Give Ss instructions:
Task 1: Work in pairs. Read the causes of population explosion. Put them in order of importance and explain why.
□ Fewer children die at birth.
□ People are not aware of the problem of overpopulation.
□ People are not properly educated.
□ People believe that having many children means happiness.
□ Religion doesn’t encourage people to have fewer children.
□ Many people believe that having a large family is a form of insurance.
