Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Distinguish the clusters /kl /, /gl /, / kr /, /gr /, and /kw /.
Pronounce the words and dialogue containing these clusters correctly.
Use conditional sentences (types 1, 2 and 3) and conditional sentences in reported speech appropriately.
Materials: handouts, blackboard, textbook.
Anticipated problems:
Students may not have difficulty in pronouncing the clusters, so teacher should guide them to pronounce correctly.

Warm-up 7(mins)
- T greets the class:
+ Nice to meet you and How are you today?
+ Who’s absent today?
+ What have you learned in previous lesson?
-T: Before our lesson, I have some pictures for you.
- T hangs these pictures on the board and asks Sts to give T shows Ss some pictures and asks them to give the English names of the pictures.
- T: now, work in groups of tables to write down the names of the things on the board.
Look at the pictures. What/ Who’s this?
- The group having more correct answers will be winners.
- T calls one sts to check his/her understanding of requirement, and then T spends 2 mins for sts to find the names of each thing.
- When time is up, T calls some groups to show their answer.
- T: goes around the class. When time runs up, Teacher asks Sts to read their answer and correct for them.

Pronunciation (13 mins)
- T: There are some clusters such as /kl/, /gl/, /kr/, /gr/, /kw/.
- T: guides Sts to produce these clusters: when producing /kl/, you should produce /k/ first and then quickly switch to /l/.
For example: clean, class, claim and so on.
- T: the way of producing /gl/, /kr/, /gr/, /kw/ are the same. T asks Sts to practice speaking these clusters.
- T: introduces some words which begin with these clusters:
/kl/ /gl/ /kr/ /gr/ /kw/

- T: reads first then asks Sts to listen and repeat.
- T: asks Sts to listen to the teacher then to work in pairs and take turn aloud the given dialogue on page 87.
Practicing reading aloud this dialogue.
A: Didn’t you go to the cricket club?
B: Yes, I did go to the cricket club.
A: Was it crowded?
B: Quite crowded.
A: Was Greg there?
B: Greg was there, yes. And Robert Queen was there, too.
A: Does Robert Queen like cricket?
B: No, he doesn’t. He quarreled with Greg. He went to the pub and drank some glasses of beer.
A: Oh dear!
B: Mm. Shall I take your clothes to the cleaner’s?
- T: goes around the class to see Sts practicing. Then T calls some Sts to read again and gives them feedback.
- T asks Sts to practice speaking these clusters at home.
