UNIT 18: Life in the Village and City
Lesson 2: Period 2 (part 3 and 4)
(Class: 5A, 5C, 5B, 5D)
I. Overview:
1. OBJECTIVES:
-By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to pronounce correctly the sounds of the letters o and to listen and tick a chart.
2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:
- Vocabulary: peaceful, stone,
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit18, Page 63, 64.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards.
II. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm up:
- Read the dialogues on page 63 and clap at the focused words.
II. New lesson:
3. Group and say aloud.
- Have pupils to open their book on page 63. Get Ss to read the instruction, the chart and the word box .Check if Ss understand the activities and the meaning of the focus words. Get Ss to repeat each word a few times. Do the first example with the class.
- Set the time and let Ss do the task independently ( in five minutes).
- Let pupils check their answers in pairs.
- Call on some pupils to report answers and the others give comments.
Answer:
- go: rope, nose, cold, close, home
- got: lot, pot, not, holiday, hot
- Have the whole class read in chorus all the words in each column to reinforce their pronunciation.
4. Listen and tick:
- Get Ss to open their books on page 64 and observe the pictures. Tell them the purpose of listening. Elicit pupils’ comments on the details of the pictures.
- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part to give Ss sufficient time to select and tick.
- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers.
- Get Ss to check their answers in pairs. Call on a few Ss to report their answers to the class. If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again.

- Word maze:
- Ask Ss to open their book on page 64 and say: You are going to play the game Word Maze.
- T guides how to play a game:
- Ss play the game in groups in 3 minutes.
- Call on a few groups to report the answer to the class.

- T sum up the lesson.
IV. Homelink.
- Ss collect some photos or cut- outs of big capital cities in the world such as: Tokyo, London, Paris...for the class display in the next lesson.
- Read the chant and clap their hands.
- Identify the chart.
- Listen.

- Read in chorus.
- Look and listen.
