Unit 8 – LIFE IN THE FUTURE
LESON 1: READING
I. OBJECTIVES:By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
Help students be able to read and understand the text about life in the future.
2. Skills.
- Reading for gist and for specific information.
3. Attitudes:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to know clearly how to choose a suitable job.
II. TEACHING AIDS AND MATERIALS.
- Teacher: Handouts, textbook, lesson plan, short videos, pictures. PowerPoint lesson, games, kahoot, google form, quizzez
- Students: Textbook, notebook, cell phone.
II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS:
Computer/laptop or cell phone connect Internet, textbook English 12
Computer/laptop or cell phone must install Zoom online/ Lms system
III. PROCEDURE
Activity 1:Discussion
a/Aim: students can talk about the future life.
b/Content
Work in pairs. Discuss the following questions. (p.84)
1. Do you think life will be better in the future? Why / Why not?
2. List three things that might happen in the future?
c/Products: ss work in pairs
1. => Yes, because of many new advancements in science and technology, especially in medicine, man’s life will be better. Man no longer fear or feel anxious about incurable diseases, which were considered fatal ones, such as cancer, diabetes (bệnhđáiđường), smallpox,…
2. => In the future, three things might happen, I think
First, man can travel into outer space: to the moon , and other planets in the universe. Next, all domestic chores are done by machine or by robots, and finally, offices will go electronic and people can do most of things with computers such as shopping, buying goods or tickets, …

Activity 2: Scanning the passage
a/Aim: help students know some new words and phrases related to the topic.
b/Content:
Task 1. Find words or phrases in the passage which have the following meanings. (p.86)
People who always expect bad things to happen.
People who always expect good things to happen.
A period when there’s little economic activity and many people are poor or without jobs.
The use of violent action in order to achieve political aims or to force a government to act.
Be destroyed or removed completely.
Spacecraft designed to be used for traveling between the earth and space station.

d/ Procedures
- T shows the content of task 1 through zoom by using PowerPoint or iBook program.
- Ask ss to scan the passage and find the words or phrases.
- Ss work in individually.
- Checks the understanding of the ss by asking the meaning of words.
Activity 3: Answer the questions
a/Aim: help ss have skills to read the passage and answer the questions.
b/Content:
Task 2. Answer the following questions. (p.86)
1. What will happen in an economic depression?
2. Why, according to pessimist, will the security of the earth be threatened?
3. What will life be like in the future, according to optimists?
4. What are the most important factors that will bring about dramatic changes in different aspects of our lives?
c/Products: Ss work in groups.
=> Many large corporations will be wiped out and millions of jobs will be lost.
=> The security of the earth will be threatened by terrorism as terrorist groups will become more powerful and more dangerous.
=> People will live in a much cleaner environment, breathing fresher air and eating healthier foods. They will also be better looked after by a more modern medical system. Domestic chores will no longer be a burden thanks to the inventions of labour-saving devices.
=> They are developments in micro-technology – computers and telecommunication.
