A. Overview
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Pupils will be able to ask and answer questions about days of the week.
II. Language focus
* Vocabulary: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
* Sentence Pattern: - What day is it today?
It’s Monday.
III. Resources: Recording, recordings, computer, projector, loud speaker, a calendar.
B. Procedure

I. Warm up
- Ask Sts to sing the chant at page 50.
II. New lesson
1. Look, listen and repeat.
- Ask pupils to look at the picture in this section and tell them that Miss Hien and the Sts are in the class room.
- Tell them that they are going to listen to the dialogue between the class, Miss Hien and Mai.
- Play the recording through or read the dialogue aloud for pupils to listen as they follow the dialogue.
- Introduce some new words: Day: ngày, today: hôm nay, Monday: thứ 2, Tuesday: thứ 3, Wednesday: thứ 4, Thursday: thứ 5, Friday: thứ 6, Saturday: thứ 7, Sunday: chủ nhật
- Have Sts repeat all new words a few times.
* Checking vocabulary: Using a calendar to check.
- Play the recording again, pausing after each line for pupils to repeat.
- Divide the class into three groups. Ask the group to repeat the class’s, Mis Hien and Mai’s part.
- Ask Sts to call out the question that Miss Hien asks Mai and how about Mai`s answer, write on the board and explain how to ask and answer about day: :
What day is it today, Mai?
It`s Monday.

- Have them repeat the question and the answer several times - in pairs.
* Concept check: Point to the calendar and ask some Sts: What day is it today?
2. Look and say
- Ask Pupils look at Picture a, b, c, d, e and f at page 54. Help them to say the day of the week in the picture.



- Tell them that they are going to practise answering the question: What day is it today?
- Do P.a with one pupil as a model.
What day is it today?
- Ask pupils to work in pairs to practise asking and answering the question: what day is it today? using the day under each picture as a cue.
- Monitor - help and correct pupils’ mistakes when necessary.
- Call on some pairs of pupils to practise asking and answering in front of the class.


III. Reinforcement
- Ask Sts to use their calendar to ask and answer about the date and day, using: What day is it today? and What`s the date?
- Monitor - help - check.
IV. Homelink
- Ask Pupils to practise asking and answering questions about days of the week, using what day is it today? And It’s....….
- Ask Pupils to prepare lesson 1 parts 3, 4, page 55

- Sing the chant at page 50.


- Open book and look at picture

- Miss Hien and the pupils and Mai.
- Listen once.




- Take notes.

- Repeat all new words a few times.

-Listen and repeat

- Group A repeats Miss Hien’s part, the class’ part and Mai’s part.
- What day is it today, Mai?
- It`s Monday.
