I/ AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
LANGUAGE CONTENT:
To introduce to the students some vocabularies relating to sports and sports events.
LANGUAGE FUNCTION:
To help the students to develop scanning and skimming skills.
EDUCATIONAL AIM:
To make the studentsknow about the Asian Games
Language:
Vocabulary: take place, purpose, compete, athlete, add.
Structure: Relative clauses, Passive voice.
Skill: Integrated skills: Pay much attention to scanning and skimming skills
Education factor: Knowing the history of The Asian Games.
II/ TEACHER AND STUDENTS’ PREPARATION
Method: Communicative approach
Techniques:explanation, questions- answers, gap-filling, discussion, work in groups, work in pairs, individual work...
Material needed: textbooks, power point, blackboard, chalks, flashcard, computer, …
Students’ preparation: Read the lesson at home and look up new words
Previous exercises: exercises in the workbook( Part language Focus)

Warm-up: Greetings
Checking absence by asking the monitor: “Monitor, who is absent today? “
Checking up previous knowledge: ( No checking)

1/ Lead - in
-Asks students some questions:
+ Do you like sports?
+ What sports do you like?
+ Can you tell me some sports events in the world?
Introduces the lesson:
- Says: “Today, we are going to learn about a major sports event. This is The Asian Games and in order to help you know about this sports event, Let’s begin the lesson today UNIT 12: THE ASIAN GAMES_ part A: Reading”
Activity: Answer the questions
- Asks students to work individually and answer the following questions:
1. How often are the Asian Game held?
2. What sports is Vietnam best at?
- Calls on some students to answer the questions.
- Checks the answers with the whole classand gives feedbacks.
2/ Pre- reading
Vocabulary
- Provides students with some vocabularies:
+ take place (v) = happen(v):
+ purpose (n) (definition): the intention, aim or function of something
+ compete (v)( explanation) : to try to be more successful or better than somebody else who is trying to do the same as you
+ athlete (n)(definition) + (picture) : a person who competes in sports
+ add (n) (definition): to put something together with something else
- Reads each word/ phrase and asks students to repeat it
- Asks 2 students to read the words/ phrases aloud in front of the class
- Listens and helps students to pronounce the words/ phrases correctly.
- Checking vocabulary
- Asks students to play the game: “Slap the board”
Task 1:Filling the gap
- Reads the instruction in task 1 and explains to the students what to do
- Asks students to read all sentencesand guess the parts of speech that can be used to fill in the blanks.
- Asks students to do the task and then compare the answers with their friends
- Calls on some students to go to the board the write down the answers
- Checks the answers
3/ While-reading
Task 2: Scan the passage and complete the following table.
-Asks students to readthe instruction in task 2 and explains to the students how to do
- Asks students to look through the table in their books
- Asks students to work in groups of four.
