Language focus (page 103): Conditional sentence type 2
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able :
- to know the form of conditional sentence type 2
- to understand "meaning" and "usage" of conditional sentence type 2
- to make sentences or a simple dialogue using conditional sentence type 2

I. Warm up:(6 mins)
Finding another half of each heart
- T divides the class into 2 groups ( GA-GB)
- each group has six halves of hearts containing "If- clause " or "Main-clause " (conditional sentence type 1)
- each group takes turns to read aloud one clause, the other has to find out the rest suitable clauses to make meaningful sentences . Then, each group has to stick all meaningful sentences on the hearts on the board.
- check the answer with the class
- The group having correct answers and more quickly will be the winner
II. Presentation (10 mins )
* T sets the scene:
- T shows a lottery ticket and ask students :
"will I win ?" to establish that the condition is unlikely but possible
- tell students that the prize is one million dollars
- ask them to list what they would do with the money if they won
-e.g: buy a house, help the poor, learn to fly a plane..........)
- write the following sentence starters on the board:
" If I won a million dollars, I would ...."
- ask Ss to tell you a couple of their ideas and use these to complete the sentence starters on the board :
-E.g:
.......... I would have a big party and invite 100 people
........... I would start a company and provide jobs to lots of people in my town
* concept checking:
* Usage:
- T ask Ss some questions :
" have you won the lottery yet ?"
( No)
Are you 100% sure that you will win the lottery ? ( No)
How sure are you ? ( It`s very unlikely)
* Form :
- T asks Ss to elicit the form of verbs in the If-clause and the Main-clause :
"what form of verb is used to the If-clause ?" ( past form or present form ?) In the main- clause ?
- T writes down the form

* meaning:
- T asks Ss " how can we translate If-clause in to Vietnamese ? "

III. Practice :
* Drill the example sentences, (5 mins)
chorally and then individually:
1. What would you do if you won a million dollars ?
2. If I won a million dollars, I would buy a modern car
3. If I won a million dollars, I would travel around the world
4. If I won a million, I would build a villa
5. If I won a million dollars, I would help the poor
* controlled activity :(7 mins)
- T gives the exercise 3 on the poster and ask Ss to give the correct forms ( page 103)
1. If I were offered the job, I think I ___ it (take)
2. I`m sure Amy will lend you the money, I would be very surprised if she ___ (refuse)
3.If I sold my car, I ___ much money for it (not/get)
4. A lot of people would be out of work if the factory_____(close down).

Lucky numbers:
- T divides the class into 2 groups
-each group choose one number.
( group received lucky number will get 1 mark , if they don`t choose lucky number, they have to answer the questions)

IV. Production:(10 mins)
* Student cards:
Teacher divides the class into pairs- one student is A and the other is B.
Distribute the cards below to all A students and all B students.
Get them to ask each other their questions. Make sure they response to their partners` answers.
Teacher gives the model dialogue:
A: What would you do if someone stole your bicycle?
B: I would call the police
A: Really? I wouldn`t. I would call my neighbors for help/ That is a good idea. I would do the same thing
Student A:
1. Ask B the following questions
a. What would you do if you lost your money?
b. What would you do if you didn`t have time to finish your homework?
c. What would you do if your bicycle were stolen?
d. What would you do if someone hit you?
2. Be ready to answer B `s questions. Would you do the same thing?

Student B:
1.Ask A the following questions:
a. What would you do if you found a lot of money.
b. What would you do if the barber cut your hair too short?
