LESSON 8: LOOKING BACK
A. Aims and Objectives:
- To help Ss pronounce correctly three -syllable adjectives and verbs in isolation and in context.
- To teach Ss some lexical items related to new ways to learn.
- By the end of the lesson Ss are able to:
+ Pronounce correctly three -syllable adjectives and verbs related to the topic new ways to learn.
+ Use some key words of the topic new ways to learn.
+ Do the exercises on relative clauses.
B. Preparations:
- Teacher: Handouts, textbook, pieces of papers and cassette.
- Students: Textbook
C. Methods: - The whole lesson: Integrated, mainly communicative.

- Ask students to recall what they have learnt in Unit 6.

NEW LESSON (40’)
PRONUNCIATION (10’)
Activity 1 (work individually) Listen and repeat
- Teacher plays the recording. Have students listen and repeat after the recording.
- Teacher helps students to review the stress patterns of three-syllable adjectives and verbs.
Activity 2 (work individually) Listen again and put a mark (‘) before stresses syllable
- Teacher plays the recording again. Students listen and put a mark (`) before the stressed syllable.
VOCABULARY (15’)
Activity 1 (work individually) Complete the text with the appropriate words from the box.
- Teacher informs students that the words in the box are among the most commonly used in the unit. Students decide which words best complete the sentences.
- Teacher may help to remind the meaning and use of the words given.
Alternatively, extend this activity by asking students to make their own sentences with each of the words.
Activity 2 (work in pairs) Ask and answer the following questions.
Expected answers
1.How can we use electronic dictionaries?
We can easily download them into your personal electronic device we can carry with us everywhere.
2. Why is learning new vocabulary with a dictionary not the best way?
- Because learning new vocabulary by translating slows down the learning process.
3. What should we do now that modern technology has entered our lives?
- We need to think how to use them effectively.
GRAMMAR (15’)
Activity 1 (work individually) Use ‘which’, ‘that’, ‘who’ or ‘whose" to fill in each gap.
- Teacher sets the time limit and gets students to do the activity individually, then call on some students to tell their answers and write the correct answers on the board.
- Ask Ss to work individually and then exchange with others
Activity 2 (work individually) Combine each pair of sentences into one. Use comma(s) if necessary.
- Teacher asks students to pay attention to the instructions. Set a time limit and have students do the activity individually.
- Call on six students to write their answers on the board. Underline any mistakes and ask other students to correct them. Provide help, if necessary.
