Know some National parks’ names in Vietnam and in the world.
Have general knowledge about National park
Use vocabulary items related to National parks
Skills
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
Guess the meaning of words based on contexts
- Scan for specific information about National parks
- Improve other skills: listening, speaking, writing.
Attitudes
Students have positive attitude toward protecting forest and endangered species
Teaching aids
Textbook, board, project, computer, handout.
Teaching methods
Pair work, group work, individual work, presentation, question and answer.
Anticipated problems
Ss may not know much about the topic, so T should be ready to give explanation.

Warm up
( 5 minutes)
-T divides class into two groups and introduces rule of the game:
+ T gives each group a handout
+ T has 8 pictures about animals on slide.
+ Two groups have 20 seconds to look and remember those animals’ names, then discuss and write name of the animals which they remember, after that, the groups will go to the board and stick their own handouts.
+ The group having more correct answers will be the winner.
-T introduces the new lesson.
-Listen to the rule and play game.
Pre- reading (12 minutes)
Discussing the questions
− T asks Ss 3 questions on page 112.
- T provides Ss some names of National parks in Vietnam and in the World
New words:
− T teaches some vocabulary items:
Rainforest (n): /`rein`fɔrist/ : rừng nhiệt đới
Butterfly (n) : /ˈbʌtəflaɪ/: con bướm
Orphanage (n) : /ˈɔːfənidʒ/: trại trẻ mồ côi
Species /`spi:ʃi:z/ (n): loài
Toxic /’tɔksik/ (adj) : độc
- T reads words two times and asks Ss to repeat.
-T checks vocabulary by matching
-Answer the questions
-Guess meaning of the words and
take note
-Listen and repeat

( 18 minutes)
Task 1: Matching based on word guessing
− T asks Ss to read through the passages silently.
− After checking that Ss have finished reading the passage,
T instructs Ss to use some strategies to do task 1:
+ First, Ss should read through the definitions provided in the task to identify the part of speech of the word to match each definition.
+ Then, Ss should go back to the passage and find the suitable words to fill the blanks.
+ T models the first sentence.
T asks Ss to do the rest of task 1 in pairs
− T goes around to help Ss.
− T calls Ss to present and explain their answers.
− Finally, T provides the correct answers:

− T instructs Ss to use some strategies to do the task:
+ First, skim the six questions to understand them and underline the key words of each question then decide what information they need to find in the text.
+ T models the first sentence and Ss continue with the rest of the questions.
− T asks Ss to work in groups to do the task.
− T calls on some Ss to write their answers on the board and asks other Ss to answer and explain their choices.
− T feedbacks and gives the correct answers:
1. The area of the rainforest in Cuc Phuong National is 200 square
kilometers. (line 4)
2. Because the rainy season is over ( line 7)
3. They can learn about the habits of animal, how to recognize the different species of animals and plants, and how one species is dependent upon another for survival. (line 11-13)
4. In the Orphanage, orphaned or abandoned animals are taken care of. (line 14-15)
5. Because of the toxic levels of chemicals in the water.(line 19-21)
6. Plants and animals will die/
