PART C: LISTENING

1. Objectives
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Develop such listening micro-skills as intensive listening for specific information and taking notes while listening.
2. Materials
Textbook, computer
3. Anticipated problem
Students may not sufficient vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to assist them. Ss may not also be familiar with the note- taking task so T should provide them some tips to deal with the task.

I. WARM UP

- T sticks 2 posters on the board.
- T divides the class into 2 teams.
- Each team will choose a leader.
- T gives the instructions:
+ Each word square has the words or names relating to the football.
+ The leaders of two teams will go to the board to cross the words.
+ Two teams will have 3 minutes to play the game.
+ After 2 minutes, the team who gets more correct answers in the shortest time will be the winner.

II. BEFORE YOU LISTEN
- After Ss finish the game, T show a photo and asks Ss: “Do you know the name of the person in the photo?”
T says: “Ok, today we are going to listen about the world’s most famous footballer, Pele.”

- T sticks a paper which has new words on page 147 on the board.
* New words:
- goal-scorer (n) : vua phá lưới
- hero (n): anh hùng
- ambassador (n) : đại sứ
- Brazil (n) : nước Braxin
- kicking (n) : cú đá
- retirement (n) : sự nghỉ hưu
- promote (v) : thúc đẩy, đẩy mạnh
- championship (n) : chức vô địch
T reads new words once before, and then asks Ss to repeat the new words.

III. WHILE YOU LISTEN

* Task 1 :
- T introduces the task and asks Ss to read the table before they listen.
- T gives strategies to do the task: Ss should not try to write down all the details in full sentences but they should write down only most important and relevant details in note forms.
- T plays the tape once for Ss to listen and fill the table.
- T gets Ss to work in pairs and check each other’s answers.
- T checks the answers with the whole class. If many Ss cannot complete the task after the first listening, T should play the tape again and pause at each event for Ss to write it down.

* Task 2 :
- T asks Ss to remember anything about Pele from the previous learning.

- T gets Ss to check their answer with a partner. Then T checks with the whole class. T should play the tape again and pause at difficult points if many Ss cannot complete the task.
