UNIT 1. HOME LIFE
PART A. READING
I/ Objectives:
- Guessing meaning in context
- Passage comprehension: (find out the meaning of the words, phrases in italic)
II/ Materials: books, pictures, board, chalk, etc.
III/ Procedure:
Teacher and Students’ activities
Board display
Warm up: (5 minutes)
- T: Shows picture, introduces the Topic of the Unit
Before you read: (7 minutes)
- Ss: work in pairs, ask and answer 3 questions about the picture.
- T gives suggestions :
+ Parents and children
+ at home
+ help somebody with something
(mother is helping the daughter with her study)
+ play with somebody
( father is playing with the son)
- T asks Ss: How do you feel when you see the seem of a happy family where people love and support each other?
While you read: (23 minutes)
- T asks Ss to read silently, under line the key words.
- T goes around / observes carefully.
Task 1:
- T guides Ss how to do this task, calls some Ss to give the answer.
- Ss: read task 1 carefully in silence and find out the meaning of the words.
Task 2:
- T asksSs to read the text again, answer the questions in the full form.
- Ss work in pairs.
- T calls some pairs to ask and answer.
- T corrects mistakes, gives the remarks.
After you read: (8 minutes)
- T asks Ss to work in groups to compare the family in the text with their own families.
Home work:(2 minutes)
Do ‘after is read’ again.

1. Very busy. They have to work long hours and sometimes they have to work at night.
2. She is always the first one to get up in the morning to make sure that her children leave home for school with breakfast and in suitable clothes. She always makes dinner ready before her husband comes home.

5. Because they are a very close-knit and supportive of one another. They often share their feelings whenever problems come up, they discuss them frankly and find solutions quickly.

- Have students retell the reading then express their feeling.
Pre-speaking: (12 minutes)
Task 1:
- T helps students with the words and pareses in task 1:
+ Share hose hold chores ( Do the hose work together.
+ Share an interest ( each member can enjoy a certain degree of privacy.
+ Share personal secrets ( feel safe and secure in the family.
- T asks students to read and checks the ones that apply to them and their family.
While-speaking: (15 minutes)
Task 2:
- T asksSs to work in pairs to prepare a list of questions with the suggestions.
- T checks by oral some pairs.
Task 3:
- T asksSs to speak out freely and take notes ( with a different partner)
- T goesa round and encourages students
- T corrects mistakes
Post-speaking: (10 minutes)
Task 4:
- T asksSs to get back to their original pairs to tell each other the information they have collected.
