Adjective comparatives

Short adjectives



* Note: Adding “er”
- Most short adjectives just adding – ER.
Eg: small-> smaller fast-> faster
- If adjectives ending in “E” just adding – R.
Eg: safe -> safer nice -> nicer
- If a short adjective has one vowel and ends in a consonant , double the final consonant and add – ER.
Eg: big -> bigger thin -> thinner
- If adjectives ending by “ Y”, change to IER.
Eg: noisy -> noisier happy -> happier
- Irregular adjectives.
Eg: good -> better bad -> worse
many-> more much-> more
far - > farther/further
- Some adjectives are both short and long ones.
Eg: quiet, simple, narrow, clever

- If adjectives ending in “y” changing Y – I + EST.
Eg: happy -> happiest noisy -> noisiest
- If a short adjective has one vowel and ends in a consonant , double the final consonant and add – EST.
Eg: big -> biggest thin -> thinnest
- Irregular adjectives.
Eg: good -> best bad -> worst many-> most much-> most far - > farthest/furthest
