LESSON TWO

III/ TEACHING PROCEDURES
1/ Greetings (3 minutes):

- Say “Good morning/afternoon, class. How are you today?”
- Get students ready to sing song titled “ we're all back together”. Lead the class in the chant.
- Review class rules.
- Say Good morning/afternoon, teacher.
- Chant.
- Review class rules.
2/ Review vocabulary.
• Ask students food vocabulary such as noodles, cereal, meat, melon, cucumber, onion, lemon, sauce, mushrooms, pastry, garlic, bean sprouts.
3/ Teaching method/techniques: TPR

1. Lead in.
- Draw simple pictures of a skateboard, a book, a toy, and a camera on the board and elicit the words. Write the names of the Student Book characters on the board.
- Ask individual ss to come up and draw matching lines between the items and the names to say which child likes which thing. Students can refer to the story from Lesson 1 if needed.
2. Ask and answer about Max, Amy, Holly, and Leo.
Ask ss to open their Student Books to p. 5.
Explain that they are going to ask and answer questions about what Max, Amy, Holly, and Leo like doing, using the words in the box.
Point to the word read and say I like reading. Point to a child and ask Do you like reading? Elicit Yes or No.
Ask two ss to read the speech bubbles for the class.
Point to another ss. Ask What do you like doing? and elicit a response. Then ask the class What does (Thu) like doing? Elicit, e.g., She likes playing tennis.
Check that children understand the exercise, and then ask them to work in pairs, talking about the characters in the story.
3. Play game named “ find someone who”
+ Ask children to write down five activities ending in –ing, e.g., reading, playing chess, playing basketball, swimming, shopping.
+ Write exercise 2:
- Go to ss desk and ask Can I take your book? Point to the book. Elicit Yes or No.
- Ask children to look at the pictures and the words can and can't in the word box.
- Children look at the first picture. Ask what Khoa wants to do (play games on the computer). Establish that the correct answer is Can and show children that it is written in as an example.
- Allow time for children to look at the pictures and write the missing words.
- Go through the answers with the class. Ask children to read the complete dialogues in chorus.
4. Pair dialogue.
- Divide the class into pairs.
- Monitor the activity, checking for correct pronunciation of can and can't.
- Ask some of the pairs to come to the front of the class to act out the dialogues.
5. Choose four foods you would like to buy. Ask and answer. (Exercise 3).
- Use the flashcards from Grade 4 if you have them, draw simple pictures on the board, or use real food items to review the food words.
- Practice singular and plural forms of countable nouns. Say cucumber and elicit cucumbers.
- Write a, an, and some on the board. Hold up a flashcard and elicit the correct word from the class (e.g., cereal – some, potato – a, onion – an). Write some complete phrases on the board (e.g., some cereal, a potato, an onion).
- Ask two children to read the speech bubbles for the class.
- Monitor the activity. Help with pronunciation and model the structures What would you like? and I'd like … where necessary.
• Join in the activities
- Open student book.
-SS take turns asking and answering the questions.
-SS walk around the class asking Do you like ..? questions to other SS about their chosen activities.
-When another ss answers Yes, I do, the ss writes his/her name next to the activity and goes and speaks to someone new.
-SS practice acting out the dialogues.
-Listen.
-Read.
- Write.
4/ Consolidation and homework assignment

+ Look at the prompt with the class and elicit a complete sentence.
+Ask ss to tell you what they have to write sentences about (what their partner would like).
+ Children complete the exercise individually.

+ Asks students to review the lesson at home and prepare the next lesson
3. Lead the class in the Goodbye chant.
