GETTING STARTED


I. Objectives:
1. Educational aims: By the end of this lesson, Ss are able to:
- get familiar with the contents of the topic
- know some vocabulary related to the topic
2. Language items:
Language: passive voice with modals
Vocabulary: gender equality, enroll, enrollment rate, perform at school, earn college degrees, eliminate gender discrimination, equal opportunities in education
3. Skills: Main skills : listening, reading
+ listening to be familiar with the pronunciations of vocabulary
+ reading to answer comprehension questions
+ reading to guess words in context
Sub-skills : speaking, writing
II. Teaching aids: textbooks, posters, pictures and cassette

- Show the picture in the text book and ask them some questions
* Questions:
1. What do you see in the picture ?
2. How are the children in the picture?
3. Do you think that it is equal for all children, whether they are girls or boys, to have chances to go to school ?
- Use 3rd question to lead the class into the new lesson

* Conversation: EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IN EDUCATION
* Vocabulary:
- gender equality
- enroll
- enrollment rate
- perform at school
- earn college degrees
- eliminate gender discrimination
- equal opportunities in education
- help them to get the meanings of the phrases as well as the way of pronouncing them.
- Play the recording twice for the students to listen to be familiar with the passage.
- Let them work in pairs to practice the conversation
- Call two pairs to perform in front of the class
- Help them to avoid mispronunciation if necessary

2. Read the conversation again. Decide if the following statements are true, false or not given.
- Ask the students to focus on the instructions, underline the key words in each statement
- Let them do the task individually
- Go around to help if necessary
- Have them work in pairs to compare their answers
- Ask some to give their answers, ask them the reasons for their choices
