Unit 5: Our picnic to the Seaside
Lesson 1 (1-2)

I. Aims and objects
After the lesson, pupils wil be able to:
- Ask and answer questions about what people will do in the future.
- Develop speaking skill, listening skill.
- Pupils know how to play Hang man and Rub out and remember games.
II. Language contents
- Vocabulary: cruise around the islands, seafood, explore some caves, run on the beach, set up the campfire, cook the picnic food, visit an aquarium, sunbathe.
- Sentence pattern:
* What will we do in the morning?
- We’ll cruise around the islands.

- Record, cassette, posters, flashcards...

2. Look, listen and repeat
a. Pre- listening
* Whole class.
- Ask pupils to open their Student’s book on page 34. Get them to look at the text, and the pictures. Point to each picture and elicit pupils’ answers.
Set the context: Mai, Lind, Peter and Tony are planning their picnic to Ha Long bay next week. Recall the vocabulary related to this section and teach:
Cruise around the islands: du thuyền quanh các đảo
Sea food:hải sản
Explore some caves: khám phá hang động
- Get pupils to repeat the new words a few times. Then read each exchange in the pictures, stop at times to check pupils’ comprehension.
b. While- listening
- Make sure that pupils can understand the situation and language in each picture before playing the recording twice. The first time is for pupils to listen all the way through.
- Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat each line a few times. Pause after each line for them to repeat a few times. Correct pronunciation error(s) when necessary.
- Ask some questions to check pupils comprehension of language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the lines a few times to reinforce their pronunciation.
* Pairwork
- Pupils work in pairs to read the dialogue. Teacher offers help if necessary.
- Correct typical pronunciation errors (stress, assimilation of sounds, intonation).
Notes:
Picture a: Linda, Tony and mai are discussing the picture, location( Ha Long bay).
Picture b: Tony wants to know what they wil do in the morning.
Picture c: Tony wants to know what they will do in the afternoon.
Picture d: Peter wants to know what they will eat.
c. Post- listening
- Call on some pairs to desmontrate the task at the front of the class. The rest of class observes and comments.
- Ask a few questions to check the pupils` comprehension of the language.
- Have the whole class repeat the dialogue in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.
3. Point, ask and answer
* Whole class
- Ask pupils to open their Student’s book on page 34. Get pupils to read the example and set the context: Imagine you are going to plain a picnic in ha Long bay for a few days. You will do a lot of things there. Then elicit pupil’s prompts to complete the speech bubbles. Write the question and the answer on the board and get pupils to repeat them a few times.
- Have pupils look at pictures a, b, c, d, e and f. Write a list of the presents in this section on the board. Recall the familiar ones and pre-teach the new ones. Use the flashcards to show the meaning of the new words:
