UNIT 2: CITY LIFE
Lesson 6:Skills 2
I. Objectives
1. Knowledge
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- listen for specific information about some problems of city life
- write a paragraph about the disadvantages/drawbacks of city life
- Gifted ss can write sentences and a paragraph (about 120 - 150 words) about life in the countryside correctly
* Content:
- Vocabulary: construction sites, contribute, resident
- Grammar: review
- Skills: listening and writing
2. Ability. Ss will be able to use the lexical items related to the cityin listening and writing.
3. Attitude. Students love and pride of country.

Content
Activity 1. (6’)
Aim:Ss play games to get ready for the topic
- Storm words “ city problems ”
Activity 2. (15’)
Aim:Ss practice listening about city life
- Ss to talk about “Bangkok – Thailand”. Encourage Ss to share anything that they know about it, and ask them if they know any problems people have to deal with.
- Ss work in small groups. Ss think or recall/imagine the nuisances/problems they have experienced in the city.
- Ss listen (twice) carefully and write down the words they hear in the passage. For less able Ss, T may play the recording again, or as many times as needed.
- Play the recording again. Tell Ss to take notes/write down the key words as they listen. Then they choose the correct answers as required. Correct as a class.
Activity 3. (20’)
Aim:Ss practice writing about city life
- Tell Ss to read the sample paragraph carefully and complete the outline. Tell them to pay attention to the connectors/markers
- Have Ss write the paragraph in about 100 words. Make sure that they use their outline, along with connectors first/firstly, second/secondly, and pay attention to spelling and punctuation. Ss can use the passage in 4 to help them structure their paragraph.

Activity 4. (2’)
- Repeat the main points in the lesson.
- T gives out the work and guides ss to prepare for the new lesson.

- In the first place, citizens have to deal with traffic congestion every day. This problem is even worse in the rush hour when so many people run out to work and are stuck on streets for hours.
- Next, high cost of living is also a serious issue in the city, especially in metropolitan cities. More and more people find it difficult to live on their modest salaries when prices are going up all the time. Financial pressure makes city dwellers become constantly stressed and tired.
- Finally, the polluted air caused by exhaust emissions from millions of vehicles, construction dust and the lack of green trees negatively affects residents’ health. Many people suffer from respiratory
