Lesson LISTENING
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Knowledge :
Vocabulary: -understand new words they may hear in the listening part: gool-soccer, hero, ambassador, promote, ..
Language: -talk about the milestones in Pele’s life
2. Skill(s):
- listen to get specific information
3. Attitudes:
-feel interested in talking about Pelé’s life
II. PREPARATION
Teacher: pictures in the textbook, recorder, PP, extra board, textbook
Students: textbook, pens, blank paper, pencil
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
-Ss feel it hard to follow the speaker. So T may play recorder several times.
-Ss find the listening uneasy because of new words. So T may prepare new words for Ss.

Warm – up
-T has Ss watch a video clip of a football and asks Ss to guess who they are.
-Ss watch a video clip, look at pictures and answer 6 questions.

Part C.Listening
Before you listen
-T asks Ss to look at the new words on page 147 in their textbook
-T shows some pictures and examples forSs guess the meanings of these words.
The examples:
1.
* Vocabulary
-T plays the tape once (or reads) for Ss to listen to how these words are pronounced and repeat after.
- T checks Ss understanding of all words by matching the words with those meanings.

-retirement (n): the time when people do not work anymore.
-promote (v): incease, develop
While you listen
Task 1
-T introduces the task and asks Ss to study the table before they listen.
-T plays the recorder twice for Ss to listen to and fill in the table.
-T gets Ss to work in pairs and check’s each other’s answers.
-Ss check their answers with their partner.
-T checks the answers with the whole class. If many Ss cannot complete the task after the first listening. T should play the tape again and pause at each event for Ss to write it down.
-T gives out the correct answer.

Task 2 – Answering the questions
-T divides class into 6 groups.
-T asks each group whether they can do the task based on the previous times of listening.
-If each group can, T asks them to give the answers and write them on the board.
-T plays the tape onefor each to check their answers.
-If not, T asks Ss to listen to the recorder again and write down the answer.
-If there are a lot of Ss having the same wrong answer, play that point of the recorder for Ss to check the answers again.
- Each group writes the answers in blank paper then exchange to other groups to check.
-T asks Ss to look at the key and correct their answers.
* Expected answers:
1. Pelé was famous for his powerful kicking and controlling the ball.
2. He participated in 3 World Cups.
