Lesson 1(1, 2)
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: Greet and respond to greetings formally.
2. Skills:
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - Good morning/Good afternoon/Good evening.
- Nice to see you again.
- Vocabulary: morning,afternoon,evening,see
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
III. Teaching processes:
1. Class organization:
- Greeting
- Checking for the students` attendance.
2. Oral test:
- Check pupils’ books, note books ……
IV.Procedure
1.Warm up
- Say hello to the class and introduce yourself
- Sing a Vietnamese song.
2.Look, listen and repeat
• Whole class: Have pupils turn their books to Page 6.
-Ask pupils the names of the characters and what they say.
-Tell them that they are going to hear Miss Hien are greeting the whole classes.
- Explain the meaning of the language practised.
-Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books.
- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times.
- Some Ss role play and the others comment.
- Ask Ss to role play.
- Ask Ss to role play before the class.
3.Point and say
- Teach vocabulary:
- morning - evening
-afternoon - see
Checking: What and where.
-Explain the pattern:
+ Good_________
-Ask pupils about what they fill in the blank.
-Tell them that they are going to practise greeting and responding to greetings formally someone.
-Have pupils point and repeat the phrases a few times.
- Have pupils look at Pictures a, b, and c.
-Ask them to identify the characters in the pictures. Use flashcards to teach the greetings in the speech bubbles.
-Have pupils repeat the phrases a few times.
- Model: Call on a pair and ask them to pretend to be Miss Hien and Mai to act out the greeting exchange.
-Repeat the step but this time has the pair swap their parts.
-Call on one more pair to act out as Mr Loc and Phong, following the same way with Miss Hien and Mai.
-Have the class repeat all the phrases in this section.
*Pairwork
-Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible.
- Make a few questions to check pupils` comprehension of the language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus
4. Reinforcement: Game: * Guessing ( two teams )
- Rules: - Slowly reveal the pictures bit by bit so Ss in each team have to guess what they are in turns. Hand up to answer. If they guess correctly before the T shows the whole picture, the team gets a point.
-Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again.
- Retell the content of the lesson.
5. Homework
- Write each of the new words 2 lines, the patterns twice.
- Be ready for Unit 1 – Lesson 1: parts 3, 4,5.
