Task 8. Give the list to your classmates and
each will tick (✓) the activities they do in
their free time. In groups of four, study all
the answers and write a short paragraph
(about 60-80 words) about your findings.
Use the sentences in Exercise 7 to help you.
- Explain the task and ask Ss to work in small
groups.
- Have Ss choose six of the activities in
Exercise 4 and then pass the survey around
the class and ask their classmates to tick
the ones that are their favourite.
- Give Ss time to turn their answers in
percentages and write a short paragraph
analysing the results.
- To simplify the task, Ss may only ask a
small even number of Ss to take the survey
to make calculating the percentages easier.
e.g., in a class of 20, four Ss = 1/5 =
20%, 5 Ss = 1/4 = 25% etc.
- Check Ss' answers.
- Alternatively, assign the writing part of the
task as homework.

Students' activities

- Work in small groups.
- Choose six of the activities in Exercise 4 and
then pass the survey around the class and ask
their classmates to tick the ones that are their
favourite.
- Turn their answers in percentages and write a
short paragraph analysing the results.
Suggested Answer:
The most popular free-time activities are
playing sports and surfing the Net. 80% of the
class play sports in their free time and 75%
surf the Net. 44% play video/computer games
in their free time. 25% watch TV series or
videos in their free time. Only 12% percent
listen to music and 10% read books in their
free time.
