I. WARM UP (5 minutes)
* Greet and chat.
+ Objectives: To help the students greet each

are you?” and encourage students to respond

Back to school
+ Objectives: To help the students sing the
song “Hello. How are you?” with the correct
pronunciation, rhythm and melody.
+ Procedures
- Draw students' attention to the title and lyrics
of the song. Encourage them to point at the
pictures to say what they see.
- Have students read and listen to the song,
drawing their attention to the pronunciation,
rhythm and melody.
- Play the recording again and let them listen to
and practise singing the song, line by line,
while doing actions or clapping their hands
when they hear the keywords such as school,
happy, friends, learning, playing, cool in the
first verse and school, happy, teachers,
learning, playing, cool in the second verse.
- Ask students to listen to and sing the whole
song while doing actions or clapping their
hands. Go around the classroom and offer help
where necessary.
- Invite a few groups to the front of the class to
sing the song. The class may sing along to
reinforce the activity.
- Praise students if they perform well.

+Objectives: To help the students review the
vocabulary about some famous places.
+ Procedures
- Tell students they are going to watch videos
and say the name of a famous place.
- Play videos in turns. Have students watch
videos and raise their hand to say the names of
famous places as fast as possible.
- Check the answers as the class.
- The student answering the correct answer gets
a gift.
- Praise students if they play the game well.
- Tell students what they will learn in this

II. ACTIVITY 1 (8 minutes)

+ Objectives: To help the students review the
vocabulary and structure items related to the
topic Last summer by playing Guessing game.
+ Procedures
- Have students in each group prepare pictures
about the places they were during their
summertime.
- Divide the class into two groups.
- A student from one group holds up the picture
covered by another piece of paper so everyone
can only see one part of it. The other group
guesses what place it is by asking Yes / No
questions.
- If the group can guess the correct place with
fewer than three questions, the group gets one
star.
- Continue the game. The group with more stars
will be the winner.
- Praise students if they play the game well.

third time to give students another listening
opportunity if needed.

- Ask students to stand by their desks.

wait for the next instruction. Any student who
gets this wrong is out of the game and has to sit
down.
- Model the activity first. Give an instruction,

- Intermittently insert an instruction which is
not preceded by Simon says …, e.g. Open your
book! to see which students are really paying
attention.
- Continue the game until there is one winner

I. WARM UP (5 minutes)
* Game: “Travel through the screen”
+Objectives: To help the students review the
vocabulary about some famous places.
+ Procedures
- Tell students they are going to watch videos
and say the name of a famous place.
- Play videos in turns. Have students watch
videos and raise their hand to say the names of
famous places as fast as possible.
- Check the answers as the class.
- The student answering the correct answer gets
a gift.
- Praise students if they play the game well.
- Tell students what they will learn in this
lesson.
II. ACTIVITY 1 (8 minutes)
* Let's play. (page 8)
+ Objectives: To help the students review the
vocabulary and structure items related to the
topic Last summer by playing Guessing game.
+ Procedures
- Have students in each group prepare pictures
about the places they were during their
summertime.
- Divide the class into two groups.
- A student from one group holds up the picture
covered by another piece of paper so everyone
can only see one part of it. The other group
guesses what place it is by asking Yes / No
questions.
- If the group can guess the correct place with
fewer than three questions, the group gets one
star.
- Continue the game. The group with more stars
will be the winner.
- Praise students if they play the game well.
III. ACTIVITY 2 (9 minutes)

+ Objectives: To help the students listen to and

- Draw students' attention to the pictures of the
four characters, the places and weather. Identify
them as a class.
- Play the recording for Exchange 1. Ask
students to listen and identify the correct
picture (a, b, c or d) and draw a line to match
the character (Mary) to the correct place
(Picture b). Play the recording again for
students to do the task. Play the recording a
third time to give students another listening
opportunity if needed.
- Repeat the same procedure for Exchanges 2, 3
and 4. Go around the classroom to offer support
where necessary.
- Get students to swap books with a partner,
then check answers as a class. Write the correct
answers on the board.
- Play the recording for students to check their
answers again.
- If time allows, play the recording, sentence by
sentence, for the class to listen and repeat
individually and in chorus. Correct their
pronunciation where necessary.

I. WARM UP (5 minutes)
* Game: “Simon says”
+Objectives: To help the students review
classroom instructions.
+ Procedures
- Ask students to stand by their desks.
- Explain that teacher is going to give
instructions. If the instruction begins with the
words Simon says …, students must do as
teacher says. If not, they should stand still and
wait for the next instruction. Any student who
gets this wrong is out of the game and has to sit
down.
- Model the activity first. Give an instruction,
e.g. Simons says Stand up, please!
- Intermittently insert an instruction which is
not preceded by Simon says …, e.g. Open your
book! to see which students are really paying
attention.
- Continue the game until there is one winner
left standing, or a group of winners if you
prefer. Praise the winner.
- Tell students what they will learn in this
lesson.
II. ACTIVITY 1 (8 minutes)
* Let's chant. (Track 3)
+ Objectives: To help the students say the chant
with the correct pronunciation, word stress and
rhythm.
+ Procedures
- Have students look at the picture and state
activity the characters do.
- Have students read the first verse of the chant.
Check comprehension.
- Play the recording of the first verse for
students to listen. Play it again, line by line, for
students to listen and repeat. Draw their
attention to the rhythm, word stress and
pronunciation. Encourage them to clap or do
actions while chanting.
- Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the second verse of
the chant.
- Play the recording all the way through for
students to chant and clap their hands.
- Praise students if they do the activity well.

instruction.
- Any students who cannot follow the
instruction correctly will be out of the game.
- Continue with other students. After 5 minutes,
the group with more players will win.
- Praise students if they play the game well.

- Explain that when you whisper a phrase of
classroom instructions to the first student in
each line, he/ she must in turn whisper it to the
second student in the line. The second student
then whispers it to the third, and so on. When
the phrase reaches the last student in the line,
he/she should call it out. A correct phrase
scores one point.
- Play the game.
- Count the points for each group and announce
the winner. The group with more points wins.
