Lucy: Hello, Minh. I'm Lucy.
- Have students look at Pictures a and b and
identify the characters in the pictures by asking
some questions.
 Who is he / she?
 Guess what they are talking about.
- Ask students to look at Picture a. Play the
recording for them to listen.
- Play the recording again, sentence by
sentence, for students to listen and repeat in
chorus and individually. Correct their
pronunciation where necessary.
- Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.
- Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom
to listen to and repeat the sentences in the
recording.
Draw
students'
attention

sentences “Hello. I'm Ben.” and “Hi, Ben. I'm
Mai.”. Tell students that these sentences are

+ Procedures
- Picture cue: Two pairs of students in the
school playground. One pair greet and
respond to each other's greetings, and the
other say goodbye to each other.
- Speech bubbles: Hi. How are you? - ..., ....
Goodbye. / Bye. - ....
- Draw students' attention to the picture in
Activity 3. Ask questions to help them identify
the context.
 What can you see in the picture?
- Elicit the missing words in the speech bubbles
and write them on the board. Get students to
say the completed sentences.
- Put students in groups of four to greet,
respond to greetings and say goodbye. Go
around the classroom to offer support where
necessary.
- Invite some pairs to practise greeting,
responding to greetings and saying goodbye in
front of the class and correct their
pronunciation where necessary.
- Give encouragement to the students'
performance.
* FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (5

Game: “Musical cards”
- Tell students how the game is played. Give an
example.

- Stick the cards on the board. Ask students to
say the words related to the cards.
- Hand out the cards to different students

- Play the song “Hello” (Track 08). Ask

them while the music is playing.
- Stop the music suddenly. Invite a student to
ask the question “How are you?”. Ask student
who is holding the card answer the question,
e.g. “Fine, thank you.”.
- Play the music again and repeat the activity.
- Ask students to check their friends'
pronunciation. Give feedback.

- Hold the cards.
- Pass the cards to the students next to them
while the music is playing.
