Mai: Hi, Ben. I'm Mai.
- Context b:
Minh: Hi. I'm Minh.
Lucy: Hello, Minh. I'm Lucy.
- Have students look at Pictures a and b and
identify the characters in the pictures by asking
some questions.
 Who is he / she?
 Guess what they are talking about.
- Ask students to look at Picture a. Play the
recording for them to listen.
- Play the recording again, sentence by
sentence, for students to listen and repeat in
chorus and individually. Correct their
pronunciation where necessary.
- Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.
- Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom
to listen to and repeat the sentences in the
recording.
Draw
students'
attention
to
the
sentences “Hello. I'm Ben.” and “Hi, Ben. I'm
Mai.”. Tell students that these sentences are
used to greet, self-introduce and respond to
greetings; and that “Hi” is more friendly
than “Hello” in conversations.
- Extension: Invite a few pairs of students to act
out the conversations in front of the class.

+Objectives: To help the students review the

- Tell students how the game is played. Give an

- Divide the class into groups of three.
- Have the students stand up.
- Have Student A turn to Student B and greet
together, then have Student B greet together.
- Next, have Student B turn to Student C and
greet together, then have Student C greet
together.
e.g. Student A: Hello. I'm Nam.
Student B: Hi, Nam. I'm Phong.
Student C: Hello, Phong. I'm An.
- Continue until all students have practised.
- Have some groups demonstrate the activity in
front of the class.

STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES
- Listen to and repeat the sentences in both
bubbles a few times.

- Follow the teacher's instructions. Practise
asking and answering questions in pairs.
- Point at the pictures and greet, self-introduce
and respond to greetings.

- Look at the picture in Activity 3. Identify the
context.
- Say the completed sentences.
- Work in in groups of four to greet, respond to
greetings and say goodbye.
- Practise greeting, responding to greetings and
saying goodbye in front of the class.

- Listen to the teacher's instructions.
- Say the words related to the cards.

TEACHER'S ACTIVITIES
- Stick the cards on the board. Ask students to
say the words related to the cards.
- Hand out the cards to different students
around the class.
- Play the song “Hello” (Track 08). Ask
students to pass the cards to the students next to
them while the music is playing.
- Stop the music suddenly. Invite a student to
ask the question “How are you?”. Ask student
who is holding the card answer the question,
e.g. “Fine, thank you.”.
- Play the music again and repeat the activity.
- Ask students to check their friends'
pronunciation. Give feedback.

STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES
- Hold the cards.
- Pass the cards to the students next to them
while the music is playing.
- Answer the question.
- Continue playing the game.
- Check their friends' pronunciation.

- Listen to and understand four communicative contexts in relation to greet each other,
respond to each other's greetings with thanks, and say goodbye and number the correct pictures.
- Read and match pairs of target sentence patterns.
- Practise using target sentence patterns by playing the game “Hello and goodbye”.
